My brother owns a iBook G4. For his birthday, I want to buy him a DVD burner to replace his combo drive. Will this slot loading Pioneer work in his iBook?

Yes, I just has one put in a 12" PowerBook. You may need to grind a few metal tabs off the drive and/or bracket (from the iBook) to get the drive to fit in the bracket; a dremel works.
CompUSA will do the swap for $30 if you don't want to do it yourself.

I don't know if you have experience opening iBooks, but if you don't I would highly suggest that you let someone else do the installation. There are a ton of screws involved... I've opened up a few iBooks before but have since decided that I'm never going to attempt it again. It's just too much of a pain.

I agree, I always stress people not to do it themselves.

By now, I've opened up over a hundred iBooks... but the first few were really hard. and I've seen people mess up ibooks really easily.

Thanks everyone. I found this tutorial online.

Replacing the optical drive.

I agree with everyone here, I'm going to let CompUSA install it.

I just went through the upgrade using MCETech and the Pioneer DL Superdrive rocks in the iBook.
