I use Chrome on my PC at work and I have to be careful about the combination of auto-complete and the preview view feature or I get the 20sec search limit error message.

I've dropped the limit from 20 sec to 15, see if that helps. I can't test directly - no chrome love for PPC.

Droppingnthe time limit won't help, it renders the page as you scroll through the list of links in the URL bar, then then you hit return to select one it reloads the page. I'm not sure if there's a way to recognize 2 requests for the get=new within less than a second.

It sounds like you are using the get-new-posts search as your bookmark. So the site preview triggers a Search, then loading the page for real triggers another.

Can chrome be set to not preload a particular site preview?

It's just in the link history, I was smart enough not to bookmark it. I guess I'll dig an find out if I can block it.

There's no vB usergroup permission to ignore the search time limit. If there were, this could be fixed easily. If we turned off the search limit completely, the bots would tear up the server.

Looks like a browser-side fix is the only practical solution. Chrome should provide some controls for this. Loading certain history URLs all the time could cause problems, such as banking-related URLs or site logins that pass variables through the URL. Plus it messes up hit counters.

Shift delete to remove if from the browsing history seams to have permanently removed it and prevented reoccurrence.
