On a 24" Intel iMac, sudden change in printing from a CAD application. Always worked til last week. Printing is still OK in a different CAD application, and in Word, and in Excel. Troubleshooting finds that AppleTalk settings no longer stay locked after shutdown. Next boot, the saved AppleTalk settings are gone. Network prefs show AppleTalk enabled, but must go to Terminal and enter "sudo appletalk -u en0".

Any ideas welcome! Thanks.

Did you upgrade the OS recently? A recent update may have introduced an AppleTalk bug since it's a legacy protocol.

What is it that you MUST use AppleTalk for? It's not what you'd call the "protocol of choice" anymore, and hasn't been for a long time.

Since he specifies it's a printing issue, I'm assuming it's an older AppleTalk based printer.

I assumed that too, but I sort of wanted him to explain. Printing from a CAD app may mean anything from just using an older laser to using a really high-end large-format printer. Why he "needs" to use AT may be a matter of drivers or something else.

So castoreum, why is AppleTalk needed here? Details please.
