I just tried installing Safari 1.0 and now it crashes as soon as it's done launching. I thought maybe something went wrong with software update, so I downloaded the installer from Apple's site and ran it from that, but it does the same thing. Has anyone else had this problem or have a suggestion for fixing it? I'm going to try removing the pref files right now and see what happens.

Moved com.apple.safari.plist to the desktop. Still crashes on launch.

Damnit, this is actually me. I'm using Camino for the first time in a long time and I didn't check to see what user name was logged in...

Just posted this to another thread - I've been having a similar problem with Safari where I get error dialogues at every launch. I tried deleting everything safari-related I could find before a reinstall but that didn't fix it.
These days I'm using Omniweb 4.5 which uses the same rendering engine, and have no intention of switching...

Are you using PithHelmet? It won't work with Safari 1.0. If you are, delete the SIMBL folder from ~/Library/InputManagers.

That fixed it, thanks. I had completely forgotten about PithHelmet.

I have the error, too. I AM using PithHelmet, so I know that's the problem.
However, I really like PithHelmet and am sticking with an old version of Safari until PithHelmet for 1.0 comes out. Or until June 30, whichever comes first, since the beta will now expire at the end of this month.

Go to the VersionTracker page for Pithhelmet It'll tell you how to upgrade.

Here's the VersionTracker link mentioned. It says:
Get the updated version of "PithHelmet.bundle" and replace the existing one. Then you'll have no more ads with Safari 1.0 (v85). Navigating to the location: ~/Library/InputManagers/SIMBL/Plugins/PithHelmet.bundle
(Note, I'm not sure why the sentence runs off, but there it is.)
