AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHH!
Stuck in the middle of MMD Powermac hell...
Machine; Dual 867 MDD, stock except for extra CD-RW in 2nd Slot. 256MB RAM.
Symptoms:
Will not accept ANY non-Apple RAM, in any Dimm Slot.
Ramdom Crashes.
Random Kernel Panics.
Random Application Crashes.
Clicking on Mp3s imported through iTunes.
Etc etc
All the test CD tests show normal. All the diagnostics I have done show normal.
My guess, a dodgy Logic board/Dimm slots... causing buffer errors etc
Any other suggestions?
Cheers,
Marc

Have you tried reformatting the HDD with the original system discs? If these problems still presisit, call Apple.

Thanks for the response!
I tried earlier today to do a clean install, crashed half way through! I finally got a new system on there but the problems do indeed persist...
I just called Apple and they think it is a mother board or logic board prob as well... although they weren't certain as the modem had packed up as well now!
Looks like I have trip to my friendly Apple Repair store tomorrow
I must be on my 11th ot 12th Mac now, and this one has been the most hassle hardware wise... Guess it is the price of progress
Cheers again,
Marc

Anything that crashes with stock apple RAM booted from a CD should be taken in for repair AFAIK.

Just did a full 'erase, slash and burn' (tm) install of a bare bones 10.2, and put some different RAM sticks in the machine...
Been running Medal Of Honor on very high detail, and Phototshop for the last 2 hours... no problems as yet...
All problems solved

I had the same problem when i added new RAM to my MDD 867. It seems that the Apple OEM RAM stick doesn't like to play with others. (3 crucial 256 dimms) So i took out the Apple OEM RAM and now everything is fine and dandy.

**Update**
Had a major crash this morning that totally trashed the HD drive data Couldn't boot up at all...
As a final attempt at mediation between me and the dualie, before surgery commenced, I reset the PRAM, and totally initialized the HD, and loaded up my new 3rd Party RAM sticks...
I then put on a new copy of OS X 10.2 only, no OS 9...
The thing is totally fine... in fact it has been up and running all day with no ill effects at all. It is the best the computer has ever been... It has not missed a beat.
And it suddenly seems very rapid in OS X, much quicker than it has ever been before... anyone know if this could possibly be as a result of OS 9 not being in the way?
Or, I'm wondering if it has finally decided to behave...
