I think they are. It's not like a time travel storyline where somebody has a chance to change it — it's just like, "Here's what happens later." Much like the time on the island is written in stone and can't be changed by something that happens in a flashback. That's how it seems to me.

The producers have confirmed that the flash-forwards are to be taken as the true future.

I don't like what they did to us with Jin. I was so happy for him the whole time, and thought it was great. And then at the end it was like "**** you viewer!"

Except that the physicist guy said that you can't change the future. I think we are supposed to understand that when someone is jumping back and forward in time that the events that occur don't change, really. They just have always happened like that and always will happen like that.

But then why did the physics guy have Desmond as his constant in the notebook? Was it because of their interactions in the past, or did he just know about Desmond because of Penny and her dad?

Since the constant has to be in both places, I'd say the answer is "yes."

Yeah, I think it was because of their interactions in his past. That's why his notebook mentions Desmond. After meeting with Desmond and discovering that becoming unstuck can happen to people and that it can be fatal, he wrote a note to himself that should anything happen, Desmond could become his constant since he will obviously meet with Desmond at some point in the future.

I thought this episode was pretty lame. We already knew Walt was on the boat; the only other thing was the long, painful, feel-good scenes between Jin and Sung, the back-and-forth pregnancy scenes which were incredibly lame (just a set-up for the "twist" and really a waste of time), and then the revelation that Jin probably dies (I would imagine that relates somehow back to his statement that he would do whatever it takes to get her off the island).

Overall, lame. Sigh. What with the last episode and the whole "fake power plant" stuff I'm now feeling that we're back to getting no answers again.

So, you can't change the future, but you can change the past? Desmond didn't seem to have any memory of meeting physicist guy in his past.

Well, changing the past would change the future.

My only explanation is that Desmond forgets what happens after it is all over.

Explaining time travel never really works and there are always logical holes (see Star Trek), but I do think the writers wanted to stress that you can't change what happens even when you become unstuck. What has happened always happened and what will happen will continue to happen.

Yup, that's the only possible explanation. But, is learning that your consciousness is traveling through time an experience you'd likely forget?

Another filler episode. And now we have to wait a month for a new episode. I'll say it again -- if the producers hadn't told us that this thing will be wrapped up in another 2 seasons, I'd be out.

I think Alex got hotter.

When I noticed that Rousseau had taken a shower and combed her hair, I knew that she was going to be in trouble. However, I wonder if the "island" will heal her like it did Locke. Hope so. Love her. Surprised she didn't start shooting instead of trying to run, however.

Don't hold out much hope for Carl miraculously surviving.

Now, who did the shooting? Ben's old group from the retreat? or some other group out there? Angry polar bears?

and Micheal is a goner. Unless he can't die. In which case, I suspect the Bad Wolf is behind it all.

And don't forget, we now know for sure Tom is gay.

We had a clue when he assured Kate she wasn't his type.

Filler? Did you nod off through most of it? I'll be the first one to complain when they make a filler episode, and they've done plenty in the past. Right now, I'd rank last night's episode second only to Desmond's for this season.

So Tom is gay. No wonder he told Kate that she wasn't his type.

I think we are seeing so little of walt because of the fact he has grown like 3-4 years since we saw him regularly. They would need some kind of freaky island related reason to explain it.

Well, with a fossilized Dharma polar bear buried in the desert, I think freaky island reasons are quite possible.

Jin is not dead people, he's just still on the island. The public thinks there were only 6 survivors, so it would be unseemly not to have a funeral for your husband who 'died' in a plane crash that you survived. Visiting the grave is a nice way for her to commune with him since she can't contact him and Hurley just came to visit the baby.

I'm an optimist. Then again, he did get arrested for a DUI which is a sure way to get killed off of Lost.

My biggest complaint with this otherwise-excellent episode is how dumb they made her. It sure looked like she ran towards the shots. And it was nice of her to yell out "three" so they'd know exactly when she was about to jump up and run.

Now, who did the shooting? Ben's old group from the retreat? or some other group out there? Angry polar bears?
If it isn't Richard and the Others who went to the Temple, then it's probably the freighter people Frank took to the island.

I CAN'T! I've got too much of my life invested!

Another thing which will annoy me is if Rousseau is dead. I mean, she's had a pretty big part in the series, although not lately. She was a cool character. To just kill her off like that, when so many other mediocre characters are still schlepping around, would be such a waste.

A lot of people who get shot on the island seem to recover pretty quickly. I think the ones who have died of gun shots must not have been on "the list."

The polar bears have nothing to do with time travel; the physical body does not travel -- just the consciousness. The unearthed bear is nothing more than the remains of a set-up which helps set the course for Charlotte's desire to assist with the hunt for the island.

Maybe, but I don't see what she is contributing. She is a... what, anthropologist, archaeologist? She didn't seem that interested in the polar bear fossil except for finding the collar with the dharma logo on it, and she seemed to know it would be there.

Oh, and I have no good idea about the polar bears, but Doofy keeps asking.

OTOH, there has always been the possibility of a spatial element in addition to the time travel. The multiple polar bears, the Black Rock being ridiculously far inland, a small plane from Africa landing on the island... and then there's Walt's mysterious appearances to Shannon and Locke. The status of Harper is unknown, but I think all of the other visions were of people who were dead at the time. Was Walt using his powers (or tapping into the island's powers) to communicate across distances? Or was it just the monster masquerading as Walt?
