I believe there is a newly issued battery recall for 12"/15" PBs and some iBooks but the link on the Apple homepage is dead...

Anyone get the link to work?

Yeah, the site's been having problems. After the site failed for me, I called Apple Care, and the guy was very nice and apologetic, but said that even he couldn't help me today. He said to try again tomorrow, Web or phone, and they'd have stuff straightened out by then, including a special section of the Apple Care phone system just for this issue. I just tried the site again, though (2:26 p.m. MDT) and it worked.

--------
Ooops! Spoke too soon. The site choked again. It seems to be having trouble recognizing valid serial numbers.

this is my first powerbook related recall. i'm super happy that apple is sending me the stuff instead of me going to a store..

(of course it prob has more to do with the fact that their batteries can make. the roof. the roof. the roof on fire. )

Though the 17s are safe ... for now.

My model no. is A1079, but my serial no. is: *3K5043Y7RJMB When apple says that the serial numbers affected are 3X446-3X510, do they mean that the 'X' stands for any letter or the actual letter 'X'? Thanks

I think it's the actual letter X. My PB also came with a battery that has such a model (A1078), but the serial is also a 3K-ish one, 3K516 to be exact.

If your battery is producing that much heat I'd be concerned. Whether I'm charging mine or running it full blast I don't feel heat coming off the battery AT ALL. Feeling the bottom of the machine, it's obvious there's just a tiny bit, but still.. very little... The top side of the palm rest area is warm, but that could simply be the PB's heat being distributed.

Thankfully it's pulling good battery life too Rates a 4144 on capacity.

Mine is on the recall list, but doesn't seem to have any problems now... I wonder if I should use it and wait to order the replacement...

Yeah, my new 15" PB has the "right" model number but is a 3K (not 3X) serial. I guess I'm ok...

My battery was recalled and I filled out the form on Friday afternoon. By Noon Saturday I had the new battery. That was an awesome turn around time. I wasn't expecting it till Tuesday.

They're not going to be replacing dodgy batteries with equally dodgy batteries - Apple will have the problem solved by now.
Yadda, yadda, yadda...

Got mine delivered today, are we supposed to return the old battery? (Haven't been home yet to look in the box)

p.s. how do you tell your batteries capacity?
