I'm ashamed to admit I've been a mac user for 3 years now and still do not know how to print only a highlighed portion of a page in OSX.

I've been a Mac user for 18 years, and I don't know.

Never needed it, though.

What do you mean the "highlighted portion of a page in OS X"?

If you mean a portion of a screen capture, just grab what you want via Grabber, save the capture as a picture file, and print it from Preview.

Otherwise, I would think it is a application-specific feature.

Print Selection Service 1.0 - MacUpdate

Works in all Cocoa apps, and in Carbon apps that support the Services menu (all 3 of them).

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

For Camino, you can do:

1.File->Print
2. Where it says "Copies & Pages", select "Camino"
3. Check "Print Selection Only"

It seems that Safari doesn't have this option though.. I don't know about Firefox.

In Cocoa apps you can do...

[Application menu] > Services > TextEdit > New window containing selection

Then print from TextEdit.

For Firefox, like Camino:

1. File->Print
2. Where it says "Copies & Pages", select "Firefox"
3. Check "Print Selection Only"

Safari not having this feature is an embarrassment.

It doesn't need this feature. It can use other apps to handle text for it. But Firefox and Camino can do this as well.

1) Drag and drop selected text onto a text editor icon in the Dock.

2) Command-p

Two easy steps and you get to clean up or alter the text before you print. Hell, drop more selected text onto the window created in step 1) above.

The only embarrassment is you not knowing how to use your Mac.
