I'm sure this is a very FAQ, but I can't dig up the answer right away.
I have just bought a new iPod to replace my "old" one. I have nearly 40 Gb of music on the old one, most of which is not in my iTunes library anymore -- and in any case, there's no room ofr all of it on my disk. How can I move all of the contents of the old iPod to my new one?

Did you try the forum FAQ? It's at the top of the list of threads.

Sorry, where? The closest I can find in the FAQ is about copying music from iPod to computer, but that's not what I want to do: I want to copy from my old iPod to a new one, preferably WITHOUT having to go through an intermediate stage on the computer.

Ah, I didn't see that you wanted to do it directly. That will require a third-party piece of software, just like copying the music to your computer. However, at the moment all I can find is pay software, which I can't really recommend since I haven't tried them and because there is usually a free alternative. Does anyone know of a good free utility to clone an iPod?
sra -- are you on a Mac or PC?
