I've recently discovered OS X menu-bar applications, and I love them!! I'm running Weatherpop, Cee Pee You (processor usage monitor) and MenuCalendar. What menu-bar apps do the rest of you have?

Plug for my own software. Only of use to OS X users using Telstra's cable service in Australia though.

ASM. May just be my old school-ness, but I couldn't live without the System 6 through OS 9 style Application menu.

Oh... and with the new version, i can access dock menus as submenus of the apps in ASM... pretty cool... i can quit, hide, switch iTunes, etc etc... all from the good old Application menu.

Weatherpop, Youpi Key, and ASM. These are great except that Weatherpop crashes a lot if you don't have an always-on net connection.

You know you can hold down APPLE+OPTION and click on the finder logo in the dock to be dropped to the desktop instantly right? ;-)

YoupiKey- mentioned enough I don't need to explain it.

WeatherPop- I set my wife's iBook up with Meterologist, but I already paid for WP, so I stick with it.

Backlight- way too darn cool to have the serenescreen aquarium on your desktop if you've got Quartz Extreme and processor cycles to spare.

Timbuktu- not really a menubar app, but it's up there. Cross platform remote control.

CeePeeYou- my favorite load indicator. I prefer numbers on CPU utilization instead of graphs.

Internet Connect, Displays, Airport, Sound, Battery, Clock- all included in X.

Just put in LaunchBar today, I think I might like it....

BTW, does anyone else ever see their menubar spontaneiously rearrange itself? Mine just did again, and I have no idea why. I hate the order it puts things in... I get so used to seeing the items in their "usual" places.

I used to use Spy but I just found PTHCPUMonitor and I have it set to string. Me link very much

This is probably because apple does not use the same API developers get accesss too. Apple's can be moved around, but the one developers can use only go in order left to right.

I have
PTHCPUMonitor - just discovered thanks
Disk Spy - also just found again thanks
Net Monitor - awesome simple awesome
Apple Script
Monitors

Just downloaded Show Desktop. That's pretty handy.

All it needs is a pref for "Ignore Applications." I used DragThing as a dock replacement and it would be nice to hide everything but it.

I only have the PPPoE icon, I even removed the sound thingy (it's at 100% 'cause I have my computer hooked up to an amp, I control the volume with the amp) (And the clock is there too)

Well, I never knew there were so many of these things available. I'm going to try some of these other ones mentioned in the thread. Right now, I have WeatherPop, iChat, PPPoE, Monitors, Volume and Date and time. I love WeatherPop...don't know what I did before I had it!

Grr. What's the deal with everyone using a totally different API for these menu bar apps? ASM uses the MenuExtra API, NetMonitor uses the NSStatusBarItem API, MenuCalendar appears to use the MenuExtra API, but cannot be moved. I have no idea what the PTH apps use, but useful as they may be, they make my menu bar look hideous. It would really be best if Apple just "officialized" the MenuExtra API, but I would be happy if everyone would just use NSStatusBarItem (of course that leaves Carbon programmers out).

Until these guys all stick to one API (so I can arrange them as I see fit), it will be Net Monitor -> Spy -> Clock -> Script Menu -> ASM -> LaunchBar (w/o the menu bar icon) for me.

Other than the ones that comes with OS X I use PTHpasteboard. I love having a history of my clipboard that I can get to at a moments notice.

There have been alot of good suggestions in this thread! I now use these:
LaunchBar -
Fuzzy Clock - (says quarter to seven, for ex.)
Clock - in icon mode
Volume
Battery
iChat
MUMenu - displays MacUpdates file additions for OSX. Its really nice and you can download directly from the menu bar.
Recent Tunes

For controlling iTunes, I use XTunes . Its not menu bar, it is actually even more quick to use, I think.

I can't believe I'm only the second person to use Menulator, that app rocks! It's a menu bar calculator, which even does graphing!

I have, from Right to Left:

Date and Time
Battery Charge
Airport Indicator

CodeTek Virtual Desktop (Switcher and Information for virtual desktops, wicked app)
Meteorologist (Current Weather)
Menulator

Yes, but I really prefer using ShowDesktop, clicking is so much easier than Command-Option-Clicking. On other hand I use Show Desktop from the dock, not the menu bar.

Left to right, baby!

-Netmonitor
-Spy (CPU load indicator)
- Airport Status
-Battery (with percent showing)
-PTHClock

I had always used Spy, but thanks to juanvaldes I'm giving PTHCPUMonitor a try for a while. Stupid PTH applications (and Netmonitor too) using whatever API macmike was talking about allowing you to not move their position in the menubar... Ugh! !

Could someone tell me why LaunchBar is so great?

I've tried it out several times and I just don't get it. I have to type the letters of the app or file I want to launch? How is that faster or more efficient that just clicking on a dock icon or using DragThing?

Is there something that LaunchBar excels at that other launchers don't?

I think it kind of depends on your style of
work.

I use and love Launchbar. I dont want/like
to have to use the mouse mroe than I need
to and I dont want the Dock all cluttered w/
things I might need.

LB also indexs bookmarks, documents and others. I'm
never more than a couple of keystrokes away
from anything I want.

That said, my bar has netmonitor, CeePeeCee
(whatever they call it), Airport, battery, clock
and LB. I'm looking at one of those multi-
clipboard apps too.
