Black tea or coffee.
Both with real milk and sugar.

Why? Coffee's good for you; just keep hydrated.

I mean, not only is it good, but really is good for you.

Coffee prevents gallstones and gallbladder disease and might have more antioxidant activity than red wine, tea, and orange juice. I also read that the caffeine reduces risk of asthma and helps circulation within the heart.

Not to mention that it's great for headaches.

As long as you keep hydrated and don't drink too much, there's no reason not to.

Oh yeah, and it tastes great.

My brother sent us FOUR POUNDS of great coffee for Christmas. <shameless plug>It's from a firm in Santa Cruz, CA that blends and roasts their own-Santa Cruz Coffee Roasting (santacruzcoffee.com).</shameless plug> Today we had Chocolate Moka-Matra!!! YUM! Chocolate coffee-hurray! Almost as good as chocolate beer!

Yes, you can overdo anything, coffee included. Not too long ago I cut down from about four or five cups a day to (usually) two cups a day. Now I stay better hydrated, and I sleep better (even when the other two cups had been decaf). Lesson? SAVOR the coffee, don't rush it.

I've always heard that it prevents growth. Not really sure though and at this point in my life I don't think I'll be growing that much, so that's not really my concern. The reason why I'm doing it is my kung fu teacher suggested I cut it way down or quit drinking it altogether (he mentioned something about bone strength, but I don't remember exactly what he said). I'll ask him next time I see him.

I usually drink some sort of black tea in the morning, brewed with one of these:

So in other words, a small amount of calcium is leeched from the bones, but this can be compensated for with supplements or milk.

The actual "stunts your growth" thing seems to be related, but it looks to be -- for the most part -- not a big deal (that is, you might not have bones as strong as they could have been if you drank a lot of soda as a kid; actual height is a non-issue).

The link reminded me of another health benefit, too: people who regularly drink coffee have something like an 80% less likely chance of developing diabetes!

How much were you drinking, anyway?

Chocolate stouts and porters in general have lovely chocolate tones to their flavor. The roasting of certain coffee beans (Brazilian mainly, but others as well) can bring out chocolate-like tones as well.

Where did you get that statistic from? Stephen Cherniske, a nutritionist mentioned in the article thinks coffee causes diabetes.
One can plausibly argue that caffeine consumption might stunt growth, but as far as I can tell no one has demonstrated that it does, nor have I seen anyone storming the ramparts at the FDA demanding that such research be undertaken. No doubt that's because U.S. children already drink plenty of caffeinated sodas, yet we aren't faced with epidemic numbers of short, spindly kids but rather lots and lots of fat ones.

It's actually more than 50% and 30ish% depending on some factors.

All-in-all, though, it's just an enjoyable drink, and I enjoyed it before any benefits had been found.

Coffee plus Vanilla Coffee Mate =

As for regular coffee, I do drink every now and then when I'm out and about but it's not particularly great. Every cup of coffee I had in Japan was gross.

However, turtle (mocha + carmel) lattes = as well.
