Ok.. I just got my new macbook after sending my old one back because of the random shutdowns, discolouration and mooing.

I was just wondering if I should take a chance and update to 10.4.7? The random shutdowns only happened after I did this on my old machine, I am not sure if that was a coinsidence?

Dale.

You will find it very hard to stay at 10.4.6..... firstly there will be software update constantly reminding you that you need to update, and secondly, with each OS update, Apple tends to put up the minimum system requirements for other applications with updates...

ie, if you stay at 10.4.6, when Apple updates, say, quicktime, it may not run on 10.4.6, because it requires 10.4.7 to run

What baloney!!! Are you telling me that people running Panther or Jaguar can't update Quicktime or any of the iLife apps cause Apple has a new OS?

Have you seen the specs for iLife and other Apple apps?

iLife requires at least 10.3.9 (proof that Apples OS upgrades through software update increase software requirements, as iLife won't run on, say, 10.3.8)

Logic Pro requires at least 10.4.4 - so it won't even run on Panther, or 10.4.2, for example

Same Logic Pro requirements apply to Final Cut.

So no, not baloney, actually.

Yes, you should update immediately to 10.4.7--and you should test everything thoroughly, namely making sure that ethernet works, headphones work, etc. Not much point in sticking your head in the sand, if there's a problem you should want to find out about it as soon as possible.

samarharb: to find out what version system software you're running, you select "about this mac" from the blue apple menu.
