So, I'm stuck at work today for my birthday. I confess don't really want to be here since I was promised a transfer to our highest traffic store where I'd be able to help with selling a bajillion 3G S', but apparently since my trainee quit my transfer which was supposed to happen around June 1st is delayed with no for sure future date. Yes that's right, June 1st was the original date for it. I'm now stuck at a store that when the A/C is turned on paint fumes from the car paint place next door get pumped into the store so I have to leave the door open and the A/C running...

So... anyone else got any other lousy birthday stories. (And I swear if anyone tells me to get a blog I'm going to snap and rip your heads off and pee down your neck.)

I've worked by choice on my birthday before. It wasn't really such a big deal.

I got yelled at on my 19th birthday for wanting to spend it with my boyfriend rather than my family. I was forced to sit at home and have dinner with them. It was boring. And stupid.

Oh, and my 21st birthday was a real kicker. I ended up having a complete mental breakdown thanks to some good ol' family drama.
Sell or send me your vintage Mac things if you don't want them.

Hey I can one up you. The Christmas after I came out after I invited a gay friend over while I was on Christmas break my mom told me she didn't want any more of THAT kind of people in our house... so I refused to talk to her from that point on until she apologized... which was boxing day

I worked on my birthday. However, I wisely took the next day off.

You should have just left. Her message was clear-cut; your response should take her up on it.

Just my gut response.

On my 21st birthday, our house got flooded to 1.5m with some heavily polluted water. We couldn't live there for 8 months due to the repairs. I failed the exam that I had to sit the next day.

Working on your birthday is something that one often has to deal with. I've done it a lot. I've done it thousands of miles from my family too. On the whole, there are worse things to do than have to work on your birthday.

I think having an expected transfer to a different store put off indefinitely is much worse to have to put up with. Or having to either smell paint fumes or be uncomfortably warm.

I once wound up with food poisoning just before my birthday, and spent the day before, my birthday, and the day after, in the hospital while they kept me from dieing of dehydration. Not fun. Note: never reheat chicken nuggets. Don't even bother to take 'em home. Just a little safety note here...

I don't remember where working was a problem, but nobody remembered my 18th birthday. Friends, family, nobody. I didn't even get the usual card full of brand new $1s from my grandmother.

The next day I found an apology note from my mom with a melted ice cream cake on my doorstep.

I don’t know about other countries, but most adults in the US don’t treat their birthday like it’s the Shabbat.

I just wish I had a job to work at on my birthday.

Pretty tough for a 58 year old computer programmer/analyst to find work these days.

I've lost track of how many birthdays, Christmases, Thanksgivings, etc. I've worked over the last 16 years. They've ceased to be "special" days to me.

My birthday is on New Years Eve. I've only ever worked it once.

On my 18th I was so busy thinking about the upcoming NYE celebrations that I forgot it was my birthday until a friend mentioned it at lunchtime.

I compliment your timing on this. My own birthday is in mid-April, and while it's convenient enough, I should have put more thought into aligning it with a suitable holiday. Of course I never have issues with "it's too close to Christmas for you to get more gifts" and that sort of thing, so maybe your own choice wasn't without its drawbacks.

Working today because boyfriend's in class for most of the day - I'm taking tomorrow off instead.

I'm just hoping my car insurance rates go down, now that I've hit the big two-five.

Mine just went down this period - I hit 23, I've been with Progressive for over 3 years, and I've had zero accidents or tickets for the past 5 years, so they took an extra $50 off my 6-month rate. Full coverage on my car is no $250/6 months. Of course, I'm about to marry someone with four incidents in the past 5 years, so that's about to go out the window.

3GSes, not 3Gs's.

I've never taken my birthday off for the sole purpose of taking my birthday off from work. Not in 25 years (yes, I'm old). My birthday is in early March and the weather tends to suck here in Michigan. I use most of my vac in summertime.
