Yeah and that little box comes up with three buttons... Yes, No and Cancel.

Why don't they put the Cancel button in the middle? I almost hit the No button with a quick hand and destroy all my work in the last hour. Stupid me or stupid interface design.

I've always wondered about that one as well. But I usually always hit "Enter" or "Return" to save, so its not an issue.

What application was that in? Most of the apps I use have the dialog looking like this:

This seems to apply to NSDocument-based apps as well, and even MS Word. If the buttons are labeled Yes, No, and Cancel, then the app is strongly deviating from the Mac conventions - Mac dialog buttons are usually labeled with verbs that describe what the button will do - i.e., Save, Don't Save, and Cancel. Also, the destructive button "Don't Save" is supposed to be separated from the two "safe" buttons according to the UI guidelines, as outlined here:

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Cancel means don't do anything and go back to the doc. No means close the doc and don't save. Yes means save and close.
