I'd like to do a memorial video of my father-in-law who passed away a couple years ago. I'd like to do a video of a bunch of photos with a song playing. Other than transcoding, I've never fiddled with video much. I run OSX 10.7.5, Windows 8, and Mint Linux so any OS is fine so long as the solution is relatively easy. Thanks.

What is your question?

I suspect the answer will be "iMovie", though. Which you already have.

Actually I don't have iMovie. Not sure why it wasn't included with the 2006 1,1 MacPro but I've never had it. That was the first thing I looked at in the AppStore but it has pretty bad reviews and lots of reports of crashing and quirky behavior.

FotoMagico looks interesting as does iMovie and Keynote. I'm curious what people have used and like as the iMovie reviews are bad and FotoMagico is a little pricey ($100 but on sale today for $50).

Output to a video DVD and as a file are required. Thanks.

I was on the fence, torn between buying a box version of iLife '11 on Amazon and buying Keynote via the AppStore before I through I'd look at Aperture, which I already own. Yup, it does exactly what I need other than burn a video DVD which is easy enough to do using other software. Problem solved, now I just need to scan a few dozen photos and put them all together. Thanks.

Just for clarification purposes, if we are talking about creating slideshows and not including video footage, you don't really need iMovie, you can rely on iDVD's "Magic iDVD" feature to get it done.

Yeah, I could have done that but my MacPro didn't come with iLife so I don't know what I don't know Aperture 3 looks like it'll do the job perfectly. Thanks.

I also like Photo to Movie. It has way more options for the Ken Burns effect than iMovie.
