Who is going? I am thinking about it; however, the cost of the package I would want to attend is $995 and then I have 5 days of hotel + airfare + food. My job probably won't spring for that.

How far is San Jose from SF approximately? 45 minutes?

What about Cupertino?

Depending on traffic and exactly where in SanJo you are going, it's anywhere from 40 mins to 1hr+ away from SF; Cupertino is only slightly closer, so assume the same.

No interest in going for all the other activities, conferences, classes, speeches, and other training sessions throughout the week during the event?

I did last year (to prove my insanity; flew out from Boston to Oakland and spent all of 34 hours in SF).

I could see doing it again, this time making a point of finding people... but it would really depend on the money. It cost me ~$400 total last year ($219 airfare, $110 for a room + incidentials). So, right now it's completely up in the air.

Probably, though, I'd rather spend money to do something else...

Don't try to outweird me, I get stranger things than you free with my breakfast cereal.

Not going. If I lived in the Bay Area, I probably would. But I'm not fanboi enough to pay for airfare and tickets.

I drive all the way to Livermore to visit my folks, then use the Park & Ride at Bart. After we get back from Macworld (usually go with a bunch of friends) we have a BBQ at my dad's place and do nerdy things like play Risk 2210 or LAN game.

It takes about 45 minutes from there. So I would imagine San Jose would be closer to an hour or more.

This year I AM going, I have already puchased my pass. and I've already been approved for the time off from work (As it relates to my work, I'm actually getting semi paid to go.).

Now I know what hotel and airline I want to fly, each are looking to cost me about $500 each (I'm planning on staying from the 6th to the 14th and make a vacation out of it too). I have to wait till my next paycheck to book them though.

Death to Windows: What carrier/hotel did you stay at that is got you such a good price? I'm going to be flying out of either Manchester, NH or Boston (Considering Logans track record in Jan, I prefer ManchVegas in case of bad weather).

I'm guessing we might see the announcment of the dual quad systems and see if Steve really does have tricks up his sleeve with Leopard, or if he was just trying to keep Redmond on their toes reguarding what he said at the '06 WWDC.

You do know that it's a violation of Apple company policy to post on a forum, don't you?

Where did you get that information?
I was told by an apple recruiter (very nice btw) that although you obviously can't say anything that would violate your NDA, you are still allowed to post on message boards.
Official policy might be different, but that is what I heard very recently.

I was at one time employed by Apple. Orientation lit made it very clear. Of course, we were also not to divulge anything in the orientation lit. This was after the introduction of OS X, but pre-Tiger.

I have a close friend who is an Apple Genius and he was definitely told never to post on any message board. One of his colleagues did (under his own name = idiot) and got the hammer.

I guess I could never work for Apple...

Sure but that still doesn't justify the cost. I don't want to leave the twins home with my wife trying to go at it alone and I don't want to endure such a long flight with such young babies. Add on top of that the cost of flying to the other side of the country, hotel's tickets, meals etc and its a pricey endeavor. I'm not saying its not worth it but time and money is short right now and I have other priorities.

I am going... in fact I am exhibiting! WooHoo! I haven't been to one since the 90s but this year I purchased a booth as we're doing a new product rollout. I'll be in the Xeric Design booth 8 hours a day. :-)

Since I am living in Dubai now it is a looooong way... still undecided if I am going via Asia or Europe... the former is a bit longer, but also a bit cheaper.

OK, I just reserved my hotel. I'm staying at The Mosser, which is literally a stone throw away from Moscone.

If you're adventurous like me, and don't mind a shared bathroom, they have weekly rates starting at $315+tax.

How the heck can you no to a hotel room for 7 days at $45 a night. I don't care if it's a hole in the wall, I just need a safe place to sleep. I'm not going to be spending more then 6-7 hours a day (all while sleeping) so what do I care if it's small. Besides, they have my one big requiremnet: free WiFi!

Now I just have to book the flights and I'm golden.

Maybe, if I can get free passes again. Love to see the keynote but it's not worth the price for me. At least if something really cool's announced I could see it the next day.

After I posted last I took a look at JB, and eventuatly did by my tickets from them (same routing you did).

Yes, Demonhood, please make me a name tag. In exchange, I will use the power of the eastern time zone (5AM Pacific = 8 AM Eastern) to hold an early place for you and the rest of the MacNN group in the Keynote line. Unlike the people in you picture below, I promise I will bathe!

Anyone get their User Conference badge in the mail yet? What color does it say in the bottom right corner?
Just curious....

FYI, OWC is still handing out Exhibit Hall passes for free (usually $45 at the door). Just use priority code: PC0619 when you register online at www.macworldexpo.com

If you read the notice on macworldexpo.com (they also sent me an e-mail about this) This year they are NOT sending the passes (hence why you have not received them)

Since I am coming to the west coast as part of a much needed vacation, I came out today (Saturday...actually almost Sunday as I just barely made in with a flight delay). I'm spending today (Sunday) in LA, then tomorrow I'm flying up to San Francisco, where I'll be ALL week, for the goodness that will be occurring

Hey Demonhood, wood you like to make me a name badge? If you could I'd really appreciate it (That way I will feel I'm getting the full combined MWSF/MacNN experience.

my flight leaves tomorrow morning, so i don't really have time to make custom nametags. but i'll have blank MacNN ones. so that's something.

i'm meeting up with some people for lunch on Wednesday at noon in front of the Nikon booth. so if you want to get some lunch with NN nerds, look for the guy with the Demonhood nametag. or just look for Stogieman (you'll be there, right?). there are like a dozen shots of him in all my macworld galleries.

Thats good enough for me!

I'd actually had "lunch with MacNN Group" on My ical for the past 4 weeks

I know I've mentioned this before, but I wll be one of the "crazy ones" (imagine me on a black and white Apple poster here) waiting in line Tues. morning. Please feel free to join me towards the front.

I'm actually going to pass it...

I have a job interview at a nice Ad Agency in SF and then I'm off back to my crib before I go to another interview... and then I end the day with my final driving lesson before my road test on Tuesday.

I hope "teh" iPhone comes out just so I don't have to hear any rumors. that stupid thing has been rumored since i joined MacNN!
