Well according to a poll of 18-30 year olds surveyed in Metro 'newspaper' today.

The Superbrands marketing forum carried out research as to which organisations or individuals were deemed as cool in a number of categories.

The top 5 results in the 'Brand with the coolest design' category were:
  • 1. Apple
  • 2. Volkswagen Beetle
  • 3. Bang & Olufsen
  • 4. Mercedes-Benz
  • 5. The British Airways London Eye

The coolest music celebrity category was headed by:
  • 1. Kylie Minogue
  • 2. Madonna
  • 3. Robbie Williams
  • 4. Eminem
  • 5. Jennifer Lopez

The top 5 coolest places in Europe were:
  • 1. Paris
  • 2. Barcelone
  • 3. Ibiza
  • 4. Prague
  • 5. Amsterdam

So what other brands/individuals/organisations would people class as cool?

    * 3. Robbie Williams
    * 4. Eminem
    * 5. Jennifer Lopez

After seeing this list for the coolest musicians, I'm wishing that Apple came 312th in the design category.

Are you kidding? Robbie Williams is in the middle of a huge label battle for contracts, I think one was offering US$90M for a multi-album deal.

I hope the idiots remind themselves what happened with Mariah Carey and reconsider!

Taste aside, those singers are deemed "cool" because they all have an image and are very popular at the moment. Nobody ever said anything about talent or artistic ability.

i think being popular or held in popular regard is a good thing...

rap moguls wear something and they automatically become cool. brands like tommy hilfiger, northface and sean jean i think have been made extra popular by the hip-hop community. northface was already a good brand and rappers made it explode in NY. even wasps wear it in the winter here to look cool/smart.

Here are some celbrities that have macs

 No Doubt
 Will Smith
 Shaq, Kobe

there were more but i forgot. i think apple can be ike the computer hardware version of Northface. It's already a good product, it's more expensive compared to competitors, and it's deemed "hip" by society...

Why is being popular or being held in popular regard a good thing? It's what you think about yourself that counts; peace and self esteem come from within and not without.

As to wearing "cool" brands, all that shows is that there are a lot of people willing to part with their money for the sake of impressing somebody else, and it really shows how little they think of themselves if they have to shout to the world that they are cool! I don't know who said it, but the old adage, "A fool and his money are soon parted" is definitely true when it comes to people thinking that a logo on a piece of cloth makes them "cool"!
Why is there always money for war, but none for education?

That's totally fake. Jimmy Hendrix wasn't number 1.

Apart from B&O, Apple are in some really shitty company here.
The Beetle is one of the dumbest looking toy cars I've ever seen, Mercedes (although improving) are still uncool compared to BMW, and the London Eye is a horrific eyesore. Even B&O aren't that cool; their design was ahead of its time once but hasn't advanced in 20 years.

From the music acts listed here, the only one who's got any amount of cool is Kylie. Sad.

Cool musicians? Think different:

Nick Lowe
Old 97s
TomWaits
Robert Earl Keen
Pinhead Gunpowder
Martin Sexton
Jimmy Reed
Mozart
Fats Waller
Flaco Jimenez
Billy Bragg'
Buck Owens

Not in that order. But jeez, did they even ask the same group of folks about industrial design and music?
