In list view, option-shift clicking a disclosure triangle next to a folder will cause all levels of subfolders within it to be opened.

Just select them all from within iPhoto and drag them to a folder on your desktop (or wherever). If you use iPhoto, you'll have to forget about organizing your photos in the Finder, though.

I was under the impression that iPhoto can now use your own folder structure in the Finder (just make sure you don't have the organise options turned on).

Not that I know of in 6.0.4...maybe you're thinking of iTunes?

Anyway, my point was you should let iPhoto just handle the files and forget about folder structure. It's something that can be annoying at first, but after a while seems a lot more intuitive.

There's a checkbox labeled "Copy files to iPhoto Library folder" in the Advanced preference pane, FWIW.

Does this make a duplicate copie taking up more space or dies it just take the ics from the folder and move them to that major folder OR oes it jst make it accessable from the original folder meaning that you are just using the icon as a link to where it is in the original folder.

This makes a copy, which is what I thought you were trying to do (copy all pictures to one folder).

Right, but that's when importing...it won't help to "clean up" folders that are already organized by iPhoto.

iPhoto is not a folder organizer. It's an image database interface.
