Me last Wednesday:

When I went to work there were a few scattered snowflakes. When I left work there were two inches of snow on the ground.

Yes. I was also shirtless at the time.

Actually that morning I was feeling really lazy. So much so that I didn't want to put on socks. I was about 2 and a half hours late to work and I didn't care about much of anything at that point.

By that reasoning they are like a Mac here in Spain, $90… I can remember my old CONS weren't that expensive, albeit neither were such a classic timeless item.

They're okay in an Apple Store, or at least the one in Twelve Oaks Mall.

edit:

Prada boots bought on 10 September 2001 while I was waiting for a plane. They've seen plenty of action and are still serviceable and look great when brushed up. Nice touch that the inside of the elastic is brown, like the inside of Prada's sweaters and parkas of that year.

The moulded 'sport' soles are still well attached. Fantastically well made. Shine up beautifully apart from the battle scars.

A little out of date, but still eye-catchers.

A good buy at around $300-400 new (in Amsterdam).

Here's a clearer picture:

Very comfortable summer shoes. Rocco P. Lots of toe-room.

You gotta love the two-tone brown.

Got them at a 50% off sale for about $250 (in Moscow).

Excellent!

Just remember to buy the best! Or at least as much as your budget allows.

Go into the classiest shops and try everything on. In general, the more expensive the store, the more relaxed are the attendants as they understand that the rich often don't look so.

Find something you like and forget the cost.

Five or six hundred bucks buys you a lot of future pleasure (although you might have to lower this figure to suit as everything here in Moscow is about... a lot more expensive).

A pair of very simple but exceptionally comfortable dress/casual shoes from NDC (Nom de Code—Code number).

Got them this year for Moscow's summer. They look great and have survived gross maltreatment.

Apparently, they are hand-made in Belgium, but somehow, I doubt this.

Anyway, I like them. They cost more than $500 in Moscow. Probably they would be much less in the US.

How about showing us something interesting you've picked up in the intervening ten years?

Surely not everyone here is wearing only running shoes and sneakers?

What if we did? Would it matter? The point of a shoe is to protect and comfort the foot. If you ask me running shoes, while may not look appropriate, and probably the most comfortable shoes made.

Having said that I don't own a pair. I am looking into buying some wrestling shoes for the summer.

Now THOSE are comfort.

well Per3, if that is truly your real name. I wear mine to mush, as in, when the shoe is actually falling apart and lets water, mud ect in. not to mush, dogs pulling you in a sled. It's called getting a lot of use in something that you spend a considerable amount of money for. my nikes above cost something around $110. I'm not gunna go pay for a new pair just cause *gasp* they get a hole in em (other then the one that you put your foot into, or the ones you put the laces in) that's just wasting money.

Those last shoes.. what is with nike and other shoe companies making shoes look like something the Empire would design? While I am sure those look nice and are comfortable, at 34 I just feel silly wearing shoes that look like that. I wish tennis shoe companies would go back and start making shoes that aren't so bling bling. I am sure it would cost a lot less in the end.

I am seriously thinking about buying some of those old 80s nike retro shoes they sell now. And I hate paying a lot of money for tennis shoes.

I'll admit that when they came out I thought they looked goofy too.. But I tried them on and they really are super comfy. PLUS it has the nike+ slot in them so that was a nice perk... I actually bought them not even knowing that.

Because a lot of us are. Products are marketed to the people who pay for products, so the tasteless fat bums with money are the ones driving a lot of the market.

Having had to spend a long time in shoes mandated to me based on the way they look rather than the way they work, I have a thing against wearing shoes based on looks (at least looks alone). My foot problems are due almost exclusively to those mandatory shoes. My professional life revolves around being on my feet a lot, and nowadays my Nikes constitute "professional footwear," so I'm pretty happy about that. On the other hand, when I dress up, I DO wear nice looking shoes-that fit properly. I just don't go past "business VERY casual" most of the time, so I don't wear those nice shoes very often.

I am not so sure about that. Right now the "hip hop" look has been driving the market. Oversized shirts and pants that don't fit. BLING BLING shoes, baseball caps.. basically looking like a parody of yourself. I guess that really shows I am getting old. I start complaining about how "kids dress" I don't even mind the goth kids that much. It's not that hard to find pants that fit.

Little do people know the "too big for me" clothes stuff started because people would steal this high end clothing to trade for drugs to drug dealers. Who which usually used to cloth their family. Being a pimp, you'd rather be seen wearing a pair of tommy's that don't fit, that a pair of regular levis that do. It had nothing to do with style or whatever. It had to do with what size the thief got out of the store.
