Never finance a car, ever. Unless you can get a sweetheart, near-prime rate (like the shit GM used to pull @0.9%), it's not worth it.

$0 down, and ultimately 0% interest.
This is "bullshit financing". I did the same with my van.
Too late in the day to wire them the money, so they set up "bullshit financing" purely to make sure she's not a grifter.
Car gets paid in full today, and they rip up the financing.

Why ?
At those rates, keep the financing, put the money in some online checking account that pays some meager interest (e.g. Capital One Checking 0.2%), and set up a direct debit to that account.
Done. You'll be collecting a few $ in interest each year.

The 0% is because they're going to void the contract later today. If they didn't, there'd be interest.

LOL, if that's how they write the contract (0%), how can they unilaterally void the contract later ?
Only if BOTH parties agree to void the contract, you can follow through.
I think you could pull a fast one on them and later not agree to a new contract.
IANAL.

They didn't write the contract at zero. What makes it zero is as of about 20 minutes ago, it ceased to exist.

Uhm, ok.
That's not what you wrote earlier.
You said she was going to get "$0 down, and ultimately 0% interest", "bullshit financing", and then later, that contract would be torn up.
Now it sounds like she got normal financing, but she just paid it off early (on day 2).

It's bullshit financing because nothing is being financed.
If it was normal financing, she would still owe some interest despite paying it off early. The mechanism by which she's not is the voiding of the contact.

Not really. Most car financing contracts don't have an early payoff penalty.
So you only owe for the time that you have financed (borrowed) money.
Even with a regular financing contract, there shouldn't be much "interest" that accrued for 1 day.
So I really don't understand your "bullshit financing" thing, because to me, it sounds like she just has a regular financing contract that she will opt to pay off early, and whatever minuscule interest that accrued for one day will be waived by the dealer.

There's a non-bullshit reason to get a one day loan?
As opposed to making a deposit to lock in the sale for 24 hours, and driving off the next day once it's paid in full?

If the dealership never actually files the paperwork, is the vehicle ever actually financed?

Right. Probably not. They are just holding it for you.
Or even if you drove off with the car, you wouldn't be the owner yet.
Title hasn't passed.
I guess all the bullshit paperwork / financing contract talk was to impress on the customer that she is locked in and obligated to go through with the sale.

I thought about it a little, and I think they're probably more worried about her changing her mind or attempting to renegotiate. I'm sure it's beaten into sales people the sale's not closed until it's closed.
Still annoying AF from the perspective of someone who intends to do neither.

I'm not sure why she had to jump through that paperwork hoop though. Surely a $500 check would have held the car? I bought a car over the phone once with a credit card deposit. Especially since she was going to pay in full the next day.

That's what I was thinking. It's a lot of effort to cover a small potential downside.
Well, again... she backs out that's a big downside for them.

That's pretty freaking impressive for such a tiny engine.
I kind of expected more speed, though. That's only 30mph more than the Honda V6 that took the the pole at Indy this year, and that car had to make 12 left turns over the course of three laps.
Still, mucho kudos to the nerds!

She officially has named her Juke "Judy". Naming means she likes it.
Ironically, she's already quit the job she got it for.
And would be mortified I just told everyone. She feels like a massive loser.
Seems reasonable to me though. She's not going to starve anytime soon, and they pulled a "bait and switch" on her. The organization she worked for is trying to transition people, specifically ex-cons and seniors, out of an "assisted living" situation because it saves them a ton of money. Her job was to be the "assistant", which means taking them grocery shopping, or waiting in line with them at the SSA.
That's a job for a social worker. She's a clinical therapist. There's no actual therapy going on.

Our network is hiring a clinical therapist, but she'd need to move to eastern TN.

She's actually very good at it, despite (or perhaps because of) being a total fruitcake.
Her "emergency chute" is actually going to a smaller pond, but she's thinking (hometown) Peoria.

Google keeps on shoving ads for reasonably priced Scions in my face.
Like so...
I wish I was still into driving fast for no reason.
(Update: she found another job, that one turned out almost as bad so she quit. Is about to start a new one... which she is going to take the train to)

Llike I said, super fun car. If they made it in a roadster/convertible version I'd likely have one.
After driving that Honda S2000 last year I've been lusting hard. Just not in the cards for me until middle age kicks in, though.

Am really liking the RX-8. Yes it's not really a normal car in terms of just using it. It's not nearly as quick as the BHP would suggest, but the handling is totally fantastic and the engine makes me smile daily. Will miss the revs when it's gone. Will keep it until spring when other peoples thoughts are turning to sports cars, then get something that does more than 25mpg.

It always struck me as the best sportscar for someone who can't really afford to buy a sportscar.
I had an opportunity to drive one a couple years ago, but was drunk, so I turned it down.

A bit steep for a car that had a $940k sticker price.

I know several people who have bought LaFerrari's, P1s, One 1s, and 918s and most have sold them, due to being able to flip them for 2x, or even more, of their MSRP. It's nuts, these carmakers are leaving so much money on the table with their absurdly small production runs. Yeah, yeah, "exclusivity", but they could easily double, if not triple, production and not dilute their brands.

Well, in some cases these companies actually make a loss on each car (the Lexus LFA comes to mind). But it does go to show how much more money they could ask for. Porsche even does this on their “moderately priced” cars like the 911 R, GT2/3/4 and the RS models, demand far outstrips supply and even the 911 R instantly doubled in price.

The Diablo is much worse, if that's imaginable, and the Countach... well... I'll just say that if they'd been banned under the Geneva convention I wouldn't bat an eye.
