Lately the App Store has been prompting me for my 3 digit credit card code EVERY time I use it. Has this been happening to anyone else? It's quite irritating.

After the recent developer fraud, Apple has increased the instances where the security code is required. I haven't purchased an app since then, so I have yet to see it.

Thanks. It even shows up for app updates, not just new purchases.

Have you changed your card lately? Have you had a problem with the card? You might contact the credit card company and ask if there's a problem...

Nothing wrong with the card. (AFAIK). It works everywhere else without issue. I even changed the card I use with iTunes and the same thing keeps happening. So I presume the issue is more with the iTunes account than the method of payment.

Give 'em a call. In my experience, your payment method for iTunes carries over for the rest of your Apple account, so Apple Care should be able to at least look at the situation and see if they can see what's up.

Didn't even realize that they had a phone number. I assumed that they were like Google/Yahoo with their customer avoidance policies. I'll look for the number and call them.

Thanks.

Abhishek from "iTunes Store Customer Support" tells me that the behavior I am experiencing is normal. He is sorry that I find it annoying. He will submit my thoughts to feedback.

Essentially, I was told to "go away annoying person." :-)

It is what it is.

Not what I expected to hear from them at all-since it AIN'T "normal behavior." If you have the time, call 'em back and talk to someone else. Tell the someone else that you felt that you got the brush off from Abhishek, and that the many people you talk to that use the iTunes store do not have this happen to them.

It's my word against Abhishek here, and I only have 30 or so apps, which makes me sort of a lightweight in app-land, but I have never had the app store ask for my security code.

Never.

I wish that were the case with me.
I'm thinking that a potential cause *might* be that I am accessing film a laptop and my IP address changes sometimes. (although this still happens when it doesn't)

I've been working with Apple support for several weeks on this. The issue is ongoing. I'll try and remember to post when/if it's resolved.

I did hear someone mention they had a similar problem due to having (and constantly switching between) two AppleIDs.

I figure if it was something that simple, Apple would have already nailed that down as the culprit, but on the other hand, it couldn't hurt to throw this information out. I immediately thought of you when I heard it.

It's all good. More ideas are better than none.
No, there I'm not switching Apple IDs. At this point I wish I were.

The only thing that is potentially a culprit is that I use a laptop and log in from hotels, offices, etc. That said: I can't believe I'm the ONLY one who actually moves with his laptop.
