From what I've read, Apple's MacBooks (other machines as well?) have been HDCP compliant since the Late '08 revisions. Which suggests that booting into Windows and playing a Blu-ray or HD DVD from an internal/external drive shouldn't be a problem with supporting software.

But suggesting and confirming are two different things - would anybody mind actually confirming this for me before I start ordering stuff?

Much thanks.

My 2009 Core i7 iMac has no trouble playing Blu-ray discs from an external drive.

Under Windows 7. I can use Bootcamp to watch video when needed or OS X to rip discs and then play video. Check this thread for more.
