Apple has slotted into 55th place in an annual update of
Fortune's
Global 500 list. The ranking is based on data from the 2011 fiscal year, which in Apple's case includes $108.249 billion in revenue, with a profit of $25.922 billion. Notably Apple has risen a massive 56 spots, having held 111th place last year. Apple is also said to have achieved $116.371 billion in assets, and $76.615 billion in stockholder equity.
The top three companies on the list include Shell, Exxon Mobil, and Wal-Mart. Shell in particular generated $484.489 billion in revenue last year, although it only took in $30.918 billion in profits. Some technology corporations above Apple in the rankings include Samsung (20th), HP (31st), Hitachi (38th), and Hon Hai (43rd). Hon Hai is better known to most people as Foxconn, Apple's main supplier. The company also manufactures products for a number of other Western electronics firms.
