Impossible to register as new member on MacNN

I was trying to help my friend sign up for an account on MacNN yesterday. Filled in all the needed information and when he hit submit it gave him an of:
"The following errors occurred during your registration:
* The string you entered for the image verification did not match what was displayed."
Just one problem.... it DOESN'T EVEN GIVE YOU NO DAMN IMAGE VERIFICATION TO TRY TO MATCH.
Just FTI if you want to have any new members.

That happened when I registered last year. When it reloaded the page though a picture showed up.
