i've got Mac OS X running on 64MB of RAM and it runs ok so long as you aren't planning on hoping about with more than about two apps and although it will boot Classic, it is out of the question. i would say that although OS X runs on 64MB, i would run it on around 128MB or more if you need Classic or can cope with your poor hard disk crunching away and everything slowing to almost 0 mph.

I have the PB on two computers, an iMac 350/128MB and beige G3 desktop/300/96MB. It runs just fine on both, though Classic is not all too usable on 96 megs.
You'll be able to run non-Classic stuff just fine.
