Where will you get a PowerPC desktop computer in the future? Other than Apple nobody is making them as far as I can tell, and IBM is certainly investing even less now that Apple leaves. I don't think the desktop PowerPC line will improve substantially.

This is not progress, that's true. It is a switch to the train that runs with more steam.
Where did the desktop PowerPC line progress in recent times?

who cares about megahertz? I have a 5TFlop system. Period.
I want to be able to encode a movie from idvd in 30 seconds.
I want my laptop to be able to hold @ least 8 gigs of ram.
I want performance. If I can have these things with a 20Mhz Pic Microprocessor running on Mountain Dew, I'll be more than happy.
Stay away from the numbers games. You are sounding like intel people already.

If "undeniable progress" means continuing to move ahead (with Intel) and not floundering waiting for IBM to deliver the goods, so be it.
The fact of the matter is, the OS and overall design and not purely the CPU hardware will be what makes Apple stand out from the rest.

Sometimes, to move forward over the long term, you have to take a step backward in the short term.
