I think Word can open some versions of MacWrite.
And Tex-Edit claims to be able to open MacWrite as well.

AppleWorks should also be able to do it in a pinch. Since Claris (or rather, the team which would become Claris) developed MacWrite, this might actually be the best solution.

MacLink Plus will also be able to transfer files. Used it for this purpose just the other day, in fact. (and I thought I still had MacWrite installed, but I think it was on a different hard drive.)
I was using an older (but still OSX version) of MacLink, too.

A second vote for MacLink Plus. Lots of old obsolete formats. Unfortunately I had a bunch compressed with disk doubler from the Sys7 days and couldn't figure out a way to recover them.

Actually, AppleWorks/ClarisWorks was developed almost entirely out-of-house, and at the last minute was bought by Claris! The MacWrite team had nothing to do with Works, and vice-versa.
