See, I forgot to put JPEG warning on my title... it can happen to anyone.

Anyone try this?

"Open a plain Word document and type in:

=rand (200,99)

Then press Enter

Very weird."

---

I don't have Word, so... I was wondering what happens?

Been inclined to wander... off the beaten track.

218 pages for me on a PC at school... Extremely odd---it really makes me wonder what that's all about.

Bud, that's an interesting variation on "Winders" that I saw a while back. It's aimed at people in certain more rural parts of states like Arkansas...let your imagination run wild with that.

Mine currently is at 109 pages, but it keeps growing. My guess is that this is either a bug in AutoCorrect or some kind of hidden load-testing thing. It sounds like something that would be exploitable, though.

Since I apparently have too much free time on my hands, I've figured out a little more about this issue.

It seems that you can control the output of the rand() function by playing with the two numbers. As far as I can tell, the first number controls how many lines are output, while the second controls how many times "The quick brown fox..." appears on each line. So for example, =rand(2,3) will give you two lines, and on each line "The quick brown fox..." appears three times. The =rand(200,99) which budster mentioned, therefore, outputs 200 lines, and "The quick brown fox..." appears 99 times on each line. 200 and 99 are the highest numbers which seem to work with this; if you try going any higher it doesn't do the substitution.

There are, of course, some differences which people are seeing in the number of pages this yields. I think this probably has more to do with different font sizes than anything else.

By the way, Bud, where did you find out about this?

I wonder how many people here actually get the original joke...?

Old, but still funny.

Budster where are you from? You seem quite knowledgeable in accents...as for me I do my natural mild-non-southside-western-surburia-hinsdalian "Chicago" accent quite well.
