Yeah... what he said!

To dislike Sinatra is a sign of highly questionable taste. To dislike the Beatles is a serious character flaw.

This is not a copyrighted work. Did you actually apply for the copyright and spend thousands of dollars? I bet you didn't. You know, just because you say something is copyrighted, doesn't make it so. What do you take us for, fools?

The simple act of creating something automatically makes it copyrighted (at least in the USA) with no further action required. Linkage.

This was not always the case.

yeah, what he said. just putting the pen to paper (or the equiv) to memorialize the thought creates a copyright.

"Good luck with that defense in court. Next time get it in writing."

It is always best to get it in writing, but as previously mentioned is not necessary. Thousands of dollars? All I see is a $30 dollar registratoin fee and filling out Form VA (for copyrighting Visual Art Works)

And having it on paper doesnt really help ones defense--The reason you get it registered is so that you can prosecute those who copy you. As I understand it, criminal infringement charges cannot be made unless the copyright in question is registered, otherwise it can only be a civil case.

As far as just saying its copyrighted? You dont even have to. (although its a damn good idea) If you made it, YOU have the sole right to copy it. umm. duh?

I don't claim to be a copyright law expert... but whatever. The CC sounds like something very different, but I'd be amazed if someones making thousands of dollars over every single registration.
