I can't get System preferences to launch. Not from the Dock, the pull down from the Apple, or from the applications folder. I've trashed some prefs and still no launch. I even tried from a different user - root - and it didn't launch. Zapped PRAM too as a last resort. Any Ideas??

Well, I copied the System Preferences from my Powerbook and that worked. Weird!

Why did you enable root? Usually this is considered a mistake.

Without more details it is difficult to help. You need to tell us what happens when you try to launch System Preferences.

My guess would be that you screwed up permissions while being logged in as root. Try repairing the permissions with Disk Utility.
