Hi all.
I have been trying to upgrade my Real Player from Version 10 to Version 11. I tried to download it, asking to replace my old version, but the application does not work - it bounces a couple of times in the Dock and then disappears.
I've put the program in the Trash but I can't empty the trash because "the item 'Real Player Plugin' is in use".
I've tried reinstalling version 10 but am getting the same problems. I just want to trash the Real Player application and start again from fresh.
Any help much appreciated.

Have you restarted you Mac and then tried copying the new version from the disk image to the applications folder.
Before you restart check your Login Items within System Preferences > Accounts > your account. There might be a Real Player downloader auto starting and also make sure you don't have any web browsers open.

Thanks for the info.
I have restarted the Mac, which allowed me to empty the Trash. However, I've downloaded Real Player 10 from real.com and it's still not working.
I'm using a Power Mac G4 800MHz running Mac OS X 10.3.2 if that helps.

Thanks for the spec, that would of been my next question.
You machine is fine for Real player 10.
RealPlayer 10 for Mac OSX
Minimum System Requirements
- Mac OS X 10.2 (with Safari installed) or later (10.3 or later recommended)
- 256 MB RAM (512 MB recommended)
- G3, G4, Mac OS X compatible
- Internet Connection
Have you tried to repair permissions with Disk Utility?
If it still doesn't work. try deleting the Prefs.
YourHome/Library/Preferences - delete any files that start with com.RealNetworks.blahblah
YourHome/Library/Application Support/ delete Realnetworks folder
and if that doesn't work can you try it in a different user account.

Well I've tried all your suggestions and even trying it from a different user account didn't work. Obviously not as simple as a corrupted preference file.
It's very annoying as Real Player was my main way of listening to radio streams.
Could trying to upgrade to version 11 originally have done something weird?

Thanks for the help. I've found that it was being tripped up by a couple of well-hidden internet plugin aliases as trashing them has cured it.
