A Chinese smartphone maker, Digione, is claiming that the iPhone 6 may violate a phone design patent. The patent was submitted to China's State Intellectual Property Office in January, and approved in July. On Monday, the company took to Sina Weibo to post proof that it sent a letter to Apple in September, notifying it about the issue and suggesting that "a communication with goodwill would contribute to solving potential legal disputes." So far, Apple appears to be remaining silent.

Both Digione's phone and its marketing closely resemble Apple's work for the iPhone 6. The former, though, is a much cheaper device based on Android, yet equipped with a 5.5-inch screen and an eight-core MediaTek processor. It could potentially be a clone based on leaked parts or schematics, something Apple has regularly had to deal with, but most clone makers don't have patents to back them up.

I didn't think you could patent a rectangle???? If the Chinese want to start a war over patents, let's go. A world court will laugh them right out of court with all the blatant copying and pirating they have done over the years. It's time for the Chinese Premier to get his knockoff companies into line if he wants to keep any Apple manufacturing in that country. Yes, it would be difficult for Apple to move but this is ridiculous.

Step 1. Get insider information about possible future iPhone designs.
Step 2. Hastily submit a patent for said designs
Step 3. Sue Apple when they actually come through with a product based on the design you patented.

Seems so simple.

Of course, you'll have to convince the courts that Apple didn't already have the iPhone 6 design nearly completed by January when they filed their patent. I guess you'll have to just work out a settlement.
