Amazon is refreshing its range of Fire mobile devices by introducing four updated tablets to the collection, alongside its Fire TV
announcement. The Fire HD 8 and Fire HD 10 joins the existing Fire HD6 in the range, and while the Fire Kids Edition gets some minor changes, the original Fire tablet has been given significantly more attention, with the online retailer redoubling its efforts to make it an ideal entry-level device by pricing it at $50, with an extra bonus for buying multiple devices.
The
Fire HD 8 and
HD 10 have 8-inch and 10-inch 1280x800 displays, a quad-core 1.5GHz processor, a 720p front camera with a rear 5-megapixel counterpart, dual-band Wi-Fi, and an eight-hour battery life. While they both have on-device Mayday support, Dolby Atmos dual stereo speakers, and run on Fire OS 5, the two differ in terms of capacity, with the HD 8 having 8GB and 16GB options for expandable storage, while the HD10 has 16GB and 32GB of storage.
The new HD tablets will be shipping from September 30, starting from $150 for the Fire HD 8, and $230 for the Fire HD 10.
The new
Fire Kids Edition retains the original's "kid-proof'" case, one year of access to an expanded Amazon FreeTime Unlimited service, and the two-year worry-free guarantee, where Amazon will replace broken tablets "no questions asked." Inside the casing is a 7-inch 1024x800 display with a quad-core 1.3Ghz processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of expandable storage, and a seven-hour battery life. On the front is a VGA-resolution webcam with a 2MP rear version, with it also having Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. ++
Also shipping on September 30, the Fire Kids Edition tablet will cost $100.
Lastly, the
Fire has been given an update in specification and a lowering in price. Its core specifications are the same as the Fire Kids Edition, namely a 7-inch 1024x600 display, quad-core 1.3GHz processor, 8GB of storage, 2MP rear camera and VGA front camera, and a seven-hour battery. While it will be shipping on September 30 for $50, Amazon is offering the option to buy in bulk with a six-pack of Fire tablets for the price of five, namely $250.
