GoPro has launched a new entry-level version of its action camera, which provides many of the functions expected from the rest of its range but at a lower price. The
Hero+ takes a similar form to the existing
Hero camera, but the manufacturer has added Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity to the device, giving users the ability to frame up their shots and remotely monitor what the camera is recording via the
GoPro app and the Smart Remote.
The Hero+ weighs 4.3 ounces, making it easy to carry and attach almost anywhere and is supplied with a small number of mounts so users can quickly start shooting action shots. Like its other entry level stablemates, it is housed in its own waterproof protective casing, which allows it to survive at a depth of up to 131 feet as well as dirt and sand, though aside from the back cover, the camera is not removable from the housing itself.
Capable of 1080p video at up to 60fps, with 720p and 720p SuperView options, the Hero+ includes an automatic low light mode and is quick to start recording after the record button is pressed. It is also capable of taking 8-megapixel stills, with a 10-shot 5fps burst mode and time lapse modes also available, while the accompanying mobile app allows users to quickly edit recorded footage and share it online, as well as to remotely change its settings.
The GoPro Hero+ is priced at $200, and will be shipping on October 4. As part of the
same announcement, GoPro is reducing the price of its recently-launched compact
Hero4 Session camera from $400 to $300.
