What she NEEDS--at the request of the Sergeant-at-Arms of the House of Representatives and fully supported by the White House--is a military transport that can fly non-stop from Washington, DC to her home in California. What the military can provide that fits that need is a large jet. No one is demanding anything. She has a need for transport, the military has a plane that fits that need.
Unfortunately the military plane is much larger in size then is needed for a small contingent of people to travel--But it was the type of transport offered by the military, NOT demanded by the Speaker. What would be smart is if the military had a series of medium-sized jets that are capable of making non-stop, cross-country flights: The State Department has a couple executive-class jets that meet this qualification but apparently the military does not or it does but does not have them available for non-military use.
Anyway, you can stop frothing at the mouth with your anti-Pelosi invective. I can assure you, she will f*ck up and give us all legitimate reasons to criticize her--every politician does--but this is not one of those incidents where criticism is warranted.

I admit to not knowing a whole lot about planes. Is there an airplane with reasonable capacity that could get from Miami, FL to Fairbanks, AK without refueling?
I ask this because if there's a plane with reasonable capacity that can get that far, that's what government officers who get their own planes should have. It's enough to get between virtually any two points in the US in one trip. I know that a 747 can get from Bangor, ME to Los Angeles, CA, which is good enough for the 48 contiguous states, but getting at least 49 would be better, as getting all 50 is probably impractical.

Just want part of this did you fail to comprehend?
Pelosi and the Defense Department are discussing letting her fly in a C-32 plane, a military version of the Boeing 757-200
Looks NON-COMMERCIAL to me.

Perhaps it was the part where the Bush administration had started providing the Republican Speaker of the House with military transport after 9/11 and Pelosi had declined, saying she would prefer to fly commercial, but Republicans like yourself somehow turned that into "Pelosi DEMANDS..." something she didn't demand?

I don't think you're paying attention. According to the article, they were going to give her a plane that couldn't make the trip in one flight. She said, "No thanks, I'll fly commercial. I don't want long stopovers." They said, "Hang on, don't do that. We'll find something else." And that's where your "NON-COMMERCIAL" plane came in.

To add insult to injury:
"The White House also stood behind Pelosi.
"As speaker of the House, she is entitled to military transport and ... the proper arrangements are being made between the Sergeant of Arms Office in the House of Representatives and the U.S. Department of Defense," White House spokesman Tony Snow said.
"We think it's appropriate," he added. "And so, again, I think this is much ado about not a whole lot. It is important for the speaker to have this kind of protection and travel.""

I'll have to find the link for you. It's interesting though that this big "proponent" of the global warming fraud is herself an owner of an SUV and is flying in Jets military or Otherwise.

She said she PAY for her family members to fly, at the rate to be determined by the Committee on Standards of Official Conduct, at a rate no less then unrestricted coach fare for airfare and for all meals and incidental expenses. Her husband is excluded from paying when he is along for official protocol purposes.
Also specifically prohibited are trips to political events.

This is the kind of partisan bullsh*t that I hoped people would finally be getting over.
Isn't it supposed to be the liberals that use emotion to rule thier judgement?
It's too bad you let your hatred of anyone that isn't a right winger blind your ability to read clearly or think rationally.

Is it standard to just ignore things that don't coincide with what you believe?
Bill Livingood, sergeant-at-arms, said in a statement that the practice began with Mr. Hastert, and that he requested that Mrs. Pelosi receive similar security travel arrangements, and that he was the one who asked for her travel to be on nonstop flights. “I regret that an issue that is exclusively considered and decided in a security context has evolved into a political issue,'’ Mr. Livingood said.
Did you just skip this part?

The primary complaint of the Democrats (and, y'know, most of the country) for the past several years has been the war in Iraq. While some people are figuratively up in arms about Pelosi's plane request, I don't think any actual wars have been started over it.

So your question is –as usual- asinine. How many people died because you whined about what Bush did for 7 minutes, or beat a dead horse for years over an election result you didn’t like, or pretented your rights were taken away, or some conspiracy theory or any other bunch of trivial bullcrap? Probably about as many as have died because Nancy Pelosi flew in a jumbo jet rather than a smaller plane.
Granted, people probably have died because Democrats did things like sit around and whine at Bush and make up conspiracy theories rather than use local resources to rescue people (Katrina, prime example), and like I said, who knows how many, but that kind of thing wasn’t really my point.
