Can iBooks take intel processors?

I recently got a hand-me-down iBook from my brother grant.
Its processor is 800mhz, and it has a dysfunctional cd drive. I still love it.
Can I send it to the local mac repair shop and pay to have an intel processor put it? or does the socket on the motherboard not support intel and only ppc?

No. Not only do the CPUs use totally different sockets and busses, your iBook doesn't even have a CPU socket. The CPU is soldered to the logic board.

i got a quote to get a whole new logic board, and itll only cost me 200-300 dollars
ill be the proud holder of a 512mb ram 1.63ghz core duo processor with 100gb of hd space 
so basically i paid a guy to put a macbooks guts into an ibook.

You got a freak with a Dremel cutting tool, a soldering iron, a hammer and duct tape to "upgrade" your iBook?

There's no way that the deal you found is legit. Even if you did buy a motherboard with an Intel CPU, it would never fit in your iBook/work at all. If I were you, I'd just appreciate your iBook for what it is: a capable, though not entirely speedy, machine.

The two machines are almost as different as Macs and PC's themselves, well, in hardware anyway.

The deal sounds sketchy to me as well. Just keep the iBook the way it is...the only upgrade I would do is more RAM, POSSIBLY a new hd if you want.
