So I put http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar in Safari 6.0.5 to log into a router that I need to configure at work. I get back: "Safari can't open the page "https://192.168.1.1"

No wonder, this router is not listening on 443.

It seems that if you ever go to a secure IP address, Safari forces https the next time you enter the same IP in the address bar.

Any way around this (beside: "stop using Safari.")?

Have you tried deleting your history?

Sounds like it might be autocompleting the URL as you type it in. If so, clearing the history will definitely solve the problem.

What happens if you explicitly type http://192.168.1.1:80 ?
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.
