hi
I have a powermac G3 (blue and white - with 450mhz G4 upgrade)
It is running OS10.3
I copied an os9 folder from my imac onto the powermacs harddrive
when I try to boot up in OS9 it just shows the disk image with the question mark
I have tried booting up from the os9 cd so that I can install it the orthodox way but it doesn't list the powermacs harddrive - so I'm unable to install it
any ideas what this could be?
thanx in advance

I think you didn't install the OS9 driver for your harddrive. You can do that with Disk Utility.

Nope.
Backup and re-initialize, selecting to install the OS 9 drivers this time.

having a bit of a catch 22 situation here
when I boot of an os9 cd it doesn't show the hard drive (due to it not having the os9 drivers on it) .... so I can't do a clean install
I've tried booting of my ibook's os over firewire but when I select it and press restart in startup disk planel - system just hangs (spinning ball)
any ideas what I could try?

Boot with OS X and install the drivers during the beginning of the installation. Then abort the installation.
But be sure to have backed up your system!!
