Problem burning DMG files in OSX 10.5.4

Just bought an Imac 24. Downloaded some large dmg files and I am burning coasters. However I converted the dmg files to ISO files and they burn every time correctly. What gives? 
I would think that the Apple files would give me better results. Is there something that I am missing or doing wrong?

That's a strange issue. Did you try reducing the burn speed?

No I have not tried that. Didn't think of that actually. However, that would then make it a 2X speed and these are almost 8 gigs each.....I'm not the most patient man in the world... lol
However, I can do that for test purposes. I was wondering if it was just coincidental thaI had bad discs each time, but I have burned 12 consecutive ISO's without a glitch. who knows...

Burning disk images is one of the functions of a disk image, so it should work as intended.

How did you convert the images from dmg to iso? Changing the .dmg extension to .iso still works, and it would be really odd if your images burned after only changing the extension.

update...
I finally had an ISO fail on one burn as well and this time I was busy doing all kinds of things, such as playing itunes, surfing the net, etc...so I stopped that and let the next few burns finish without me doing anything on the computer while burning and then they all burned correctly. I am wondering if there is too much cpu activity going on and the super drive isn't able to write fast enough. Seems like that would not be the case, since this is such a fast cpu however it does seem possible.
I am looking to see if this drive is burn proof, if so then scratch this idea....maybe I don't have an option checked somewhere for burnproof. I know on the PC, some software actually makes you check that feature.
I used a command line in terminal to convert them...
