Hi All,

Ok, this has bugged me for quite a while (since early Jaguar, at least): if I turn on "calculate all sizes" for a window that's in list view, very often the folder sizes don't change, even if I take out or put in files.

I find this very frustrating (heck, the space usage details under my hard drives have remained static sometimes for days!).

How do I refresh this info, any tips?

Calling up the Get Info panel will refesh the values (I think).
Yes, it's annoying that they aren't dynamic. What's the point of always seeing what the values were when this option was switched on? I think logging out then back in will refesh the desktop icons.

Tell Apple that you want this fixed, and hope for the best.

Once in a while calling up the get info panel will refresh the values, but I've found that most of the time not <grr>

When I'm archiving work onto DVD, I use the get info/folder sizes to help me to choose what to throw into Toast, but I'm getting really frustrated with the OS on this.

As for contacting Apple, I've done that a few times ((back in the Jaguar days, but no fix in Panther :-/

Well, let's see what the next release brings us (hey, I know that it's cpu and disk intensive for the OS to keep checking the size of directories, but c'mon Apple, how about a way to refresh the view, at least?)

Actually, BSD kqueues allow notification of filesystem changes that don't require continual polling.
