I've got several years worth of messages on Gmail.
Is there a way to use Mail or Thunderbird to bring in just a specified date range?
Basically I want to bring in all of my 2010 mail but nothing before that...
POP is preferred, because I would rather not deal with IMPA unless absolutely necessary...
Is this possible?

Create a folder (label? ) in gmail and move all <2010 messages there. That leaves you with only 2010 messages in your gmail Inbox.
Turn on POP, which only bothers with what's in your Inbox, then use whatever client you like to download.
This is the only way I can think of to get what you want without IMAP.

In terms of IMAP, it looks like Mail doesn't even have a setting for a date rang - while Tbird seems to let us pick a timespan.
Perhaps that would be the best way to go...

Thunderbird does indeed, and its imap interaction is much better than Mail.
