Netflix updates Android mobile and tablet app, iPhone version update to follow
This weekend, Netflix has started to roll out a new visual search functionality for its mobile apps, beginning with its
Android version. The update to the TV and movie streaming service's app allows users to quickly scan search results for desired content, in a style comparable to what is used on game consoles, smart TVs and Netflix's website.
According to Netflix's
blog post, search results will now display in a grid of cover art that shows more results at once on touch screen devices such as mobile phones and tablets. Upon tapping on a particular video, users can add their selection to "My List," which can either start playback on the device or allow for accessing Chromecast or AirPlay for watching content on a big screen.
The upcoming update for iPhone will expand the search function to include searching by actor, director or creator. Additionally, suggestions related to a search query will be provided. The updated Android app is live, with no specific release date available for the new iPhone version.
