I bought a song last night from amazon.com for 99 cents. I checked and used my credit card on file, which I only had one. Turns out I hadn't used amazon in so long my credit card was old. I lost my card earlier in the year and never updated my amazon info. The song downloaded fine, I was never charged, and I got an email this morning saying my order was canceled, but I still have the song. I'm listening to it now as I write this.

Sure they made a mistake and many would say you should profit by that. I disagree. I would contact them by email explain to them what happened and attempt to pay for it. If they say forget about it I would enjoy my music.

When a store cashier rings something up and it is obviously rung up wrong I always make to point out the store's error and pay the fair price. Morally, to me, it is stealing otherwise.

Is this the first time you've bought a song from Amazon? Because the first time I bought one from them, it was free.

I'm guessing they don't put an exceptional amount of effort into making sure every single error gets resolved - more trouble than it's worth. Do fix your buying info, though.

If you don't fix your card info or pay them, they should notice and inform you that they weren't able to take payment.
They did this when the details for my card changed.

I have to echo what RR wrote. I think getting something for free (when it isn't) is wrong regardless of whose mistake it was. Getting the song and not paying for it is stealing, so email them of the situation. I'm sure they'll thank you for your honesty and probably even tell you to keep the song for free.

I doubt it's worth their time (literally, in dollars) to manually correct a 99¢ goofup.

I bet it is worth their time to be informed that they have an error in their software that could potentially cost them a lot of money.

Agreed but that shouldn't be used as an excuse not to contact them Sending an email to detail the issue, takes no more then 5 minutes. Morality should not be based on worth.

Burn it to a CD and mail it back to Amazon.

I'm not sure if this is the case this time, but:

On this page, you have the option of testing the Amazon MP3 Downloader by downloading a song, free of charge. Click the Download Song button.
