Apple has been working round the clock to fill customer orders and is very
pleased to inform you that your order will ship within 3 to 5 days.
Hope y'all realize that even though that's better than Oc.t 15th, it is STILL a delay of at least 3 days, and at most a week? (BUSINESS days)

What a joke. Boooo! I'll update when my OOB date (tomorrow) comes/goes...

My ship date has been (OOB) 10/16 since I ordered it. No email yet, but since people who ordered way before me are getting emails bumping them to 10/14, the odds of me getting my machine anytime THIS YEAR are looking bad.

Ok---I give up--it is about 11:15 CDT and I am back at 10/14---they are messing with our brains!

It is a test of willpower and only those that don't crack will be worthy of a dual G5.
it was the world's fastest computer when I ordered it!

hmmm. 1:23am - officially 9/23, my OOB date. guess I'll put the page on auto-refresh as I'm stuck at home with a really bad back/leg injury. i'm hoping it's not a problem with my sciatic nerve just like i'm hoping that there won't be a delay with my dual g5. go sciatic nerve! go g5! wooo!

OK, on a day that's become even more bizarre than Aug 29, my order now says "shipped" - but I've gotten no confirming email, so I'm not buying it yet.

Not only that, but right under where is says shipped on the order status page, it says "Est. Ship 10/14/2003" - Apple has serious issues.

OK, I am a guy who can admit it when i've been an ass, and been wrong. I checked this morning and I received a shipping email. The order was upgraded to overnight shipping by noon next day. Tracking says it will arrive today. I apologize to Steve. I guess they really were trying.

Glad to hear that GeekyJeff. Just setup my Dual G5, and am having trouble with it recognizing all 4 512 sticks of Crucial xms low latency DDR 400 memory. Gotta figure it out. Anyway, not able to add much to previous comments about this machine. Awesome build quality; fast with only a Gig., fits in my new desk... I know Apple has been pushing hard to get these out. It probably doesn't bring much comfort to those waiting, but I bet there's a real soap opera going on with parts suppliers, etc.

I just received word from PowerMax (through whom I ordered my Dual G5) that Apple has notified them that their *large* (100+) order of Dual G5s will ship shortly. This includes the stock dual that I ordered from them immediately after the G5s appeared on the Apple Store web site (day of the announcement). I will be out of town all next week (figures!) -- so they will be shipping to me for arrival 10/6.

on or before date is today.

apple advised i have an order confirmation number which means it's being built.

he couldn't advise at what stage it is in.

so it could ship between now and a couple of days.

so even if it doesn't ship today at least i know it's on the being built.

btw. once an order confirmation has been reveived it takes about 48 hours to ship.

that's the update now.

To Our Valued Apple Customer:

We apologize for the inconvinience but your PowerMac G5 has accidentally been shipped to Ukraine.

We tried to correct the problem but when we called Airborne they said the last time they saw your order it was airborne.. falling off the back of the plane because the rear door was not closed properly.

Please call us at 1-800-MY-APPLE if you are still intrested in pursuing your order. Note that sending you another G5 will put you at the end of the cue line again.

We appreciate your business and your patience. Thank you for shopping at the
Apple Store.

Hello ...

JustinD- same here.

I called Apple this afternoon. The woman answering couldn't (wouldn't?) tell me anything that I couldn't see for myself on the Order Status web site.

She did note aloud that this was my second OOB date bump. (22Aug -> 2 Sept -> 23 Sept.) She even called today my "commit date". Maybe that means something. She also mentioned that, at the time of my call (about 1:30 PST), the last shipment hadn't left, so that I wasn't without hope ... yet.

Surely, if I were going to get bumped again, she would've seen that and warned me ... yes?

Same here. ADC fully maxed dual ordered 6/24. Original estimate OOB 9/2, then 9/23, and in the last hour or so, 10/29. I didn't get any mails regarding any of these bumps.

I did see a temp credit card auth for the full amount today. I really wonder when I'll get this machine.

So, now Apple has decided to toy with me, as it has with so many others.

7:35 PST, and OOB is back to 9/23.

I'm not checking again until tomorrow. And I mean it.

my oob date slipped from 9/23 to 10/29.

i was told i had a build confirmation number and my computer was in the process of being built as of last friday.

apple rep stated it takes 3 business days to build and test a computer.

i guess they don't work on the weekends. so much for working around the clock...

anyways, i don't know what is going on and if this is truly the new oob and apple has been just pulling my leg then i will cancel my order if my computer doesn't ship by friday.

i will wait for the revision b computer once they are on the shelves.

i have definetly learned a lesson from all this. i cancelled my 17 inch order after waiting 3 months with my date being pushed back etc...

and i couldn't fathom apple would allow another release to go an entire quarter again.

there is absolutely no need to preorder. at best you would get your machine a couple weeks sooner. not worth the aggravation to preorder.

just some thoughts.

thanks for letting me vent.

My DualG5 (config below), ordered through the education store on 8/05 just shipped. Shipping date had been 10/16 since the first day.

This is weird, there's got to be some reason beyond the education thing why my order would ship before first day orders. Some optional part must be in short supply.

This is insane! Mine was an Edu. Inst. order on keynote day with the following:

added AP Extreme
added BT
2x 250GB drives
4GB RAM
removed modem
ATI Radeon 9800

I was thinking that it was the drives, but yours with the 250GB drive shipped. then I thought it was the 9800, but someone who got that had theirs shipped. I give up...

(still OOB 9/23 =)

Damn, you, Apple. Damn, you all to HELL!!!!

Seriously, I thought education customers were getting priority. We ordered right after the Keynote, and got bumped once from 9/2 to 9/23. Now again bumped to 10/29????? At the last moment, again????? Sheesh, at least they sent our Cinema HD Displays (which we can't even use on our older machines). If you stack them, they make a real nice TABLE!

I mean, sure Princeton didn't order 1100 like the VT Hokies, but we are much more Mac-friendly campus than we used to be.

Could it be BT, since that'll require a modification to the motherboard that can't be installed outside of the factory?

Hello ...

Now the morning of 24 September, and my OOB is still 10/29.

(I'll admit it: I _did_ check Order Status more than a few times last night. The OOB bounced between 9/23 and 10/29 a couple of times.)

Am I _really_ to believe that the rep I called yesterday couldn't see that my Mac hadn't been built yet?

The delay wouldn't seem to be BlueTooth, or a shortage of any CTO component. My G5 is completely stock.

I'd cancel, but I _need_ this computer.

Not a happy camper,

Don - i cant believe your stock machine got the delay!

I unfortunately just checked on 2 of my G5 orders. One for my publications manager shipped - all that was added was RAM.

But mine got the kick to 10/29! This really is a fiasco. Now I have to call my rep and find out what's going on, probably gonna get the runaround... argh!

Well, talking to a few Apple peeple (including my rep, whom from I demanded an upgrade to next-day shipping or I'd cancel the rest of my orders until next revision), it seems that a problem might be the Serial ATA drives - especially those with the 250GB drives.

Though, that wouldn't explain Don's delay on his stock machine!

Hooray. I've got a slipped disk and a delayed G5. Someone kill me. =\ hehe

INSANE!!!

I just received a promotional e-mail from the Apple Store in Willow Bend (Dallas, TX ... about three hours north of me) advertising dual-processor G5s in stock!

I called Apple, and they insist they can't tell me anything other than my machine will be sent "on or before 29 October", although "we anticipate it shipping before then". (Isn't that encouraging?) Of course, they don't have anything to say about the fact that the Willow Bend store has them.

I asked if they could just call the store and have *them* ship me a box, but no dice. I'd have to have our purchase order re-issued and payable to the store. I'd consider it, but there's every chance the Apple Store will sell out or something before the paperwork clears, and then I will have lost my spot in the "on-line" line. And I don't think the Apple Store would bother shipping the thing to me, so I'd be out considerable gas money and time heading up to get it myself.

[Update: I was right. The Apple Store "can't" ship out stuff, and unless I were to walk in the door up there person and lay claim to a G5 *right*now*, I can consider the current stock depleted.]

My date has moved from Oct 9th to Oct 29 but not for delay reasons... I had to make a changed to the order, but my shipping just changed from 2 day to priority overnight... anyone know why that would happen? i didnt ask for anything like that...

Wow, I'm surprised they'd take a PO at all. The flagship NYC SoHo store will NOT take a school PO! (I did only ask the first person that picked up the phone, but he seemed pretty sure...)

This is horrible. Another MONTH delay (at most) for a product in stock at stores! I'm DYING to know why - heck, the wait would be worth it if there was a reason behind it. If I get any more outta my rep, you'll be sure to hear it hehe.

I didn't get far enough into the conversation with my Apple rep to settle the details, but it was her suggestion.

I'm DYING to know why - heck, the wait would be worth it if there was a reason behind it.
I think more than a reason would be needed to make the wait worth it. You know, not one representative has bothered to offer any kind of amends for this ordeal. How are you other folks getting the free shipping upgrades, wireless peripherals, and/or other stuff?

Now, if they'd throw in the Klipsch 5.1 surround sound system, I might come away from this train wreck satisfied.

What's Steve Jobs' e-mail address? *He* could make things right.

You have made a gross tactical error giving away your position! I am in Fort Worth and can reach the Willow Bend store in about an hour and fifteen minutes (interstate 635 traffic permitting)

You have made a gross tactical error giving away your position! I am in Fort Worth and can reach the Willow Bend store in about an hour and fifteen minutes (interstate 635 traffic permitting)
The salesguy I talked to said that they would probably all be spoken for by the time I could get there, anyway, so by all means: go for it.

Drive safely.

I ordered @ 3:45 on June 23rd (shortly after keynote) and I had a Sept. 29th Ship date...CTO with the upgrade to 250GB, everything else stock...I do wonder if it is the 250GB drives...maybe I'm wrong on the drives...it does seem speediest if you just order stock configuration to get them in your hands faster...

Just FYI, I got my 15" Albook last Wednesday (CDW actually had them in the warehouse store on Sept. 17th!) and I was installing Disk Warrior for a fresh start and the disk Warrior CD-ROM does not boot with the 10.2.7 on the Albook and I sure it probably doesn't boot on a G5.

It certainly doesn't seem that way to me.

Anyway, sent a disgruntled FAX to Apple Education and got a call back. "Chris" said that he's going to FedEx me a 1.6 G5 loaner until my dualie comes in.

Someone at Apple cares!

after speaking with a several departments at apple, the company line seems to be there is a part that is backordered and they can't guarantee when it will ship even if you have a build confirmation number.

the skeptic in me says that's the company line to keep people from cancelling their orders and even if i were to take what they say at face value then it shows how poor their planning was in manufacturing the g5's.

i could understand if there was some type of technical issue or software issue but to say they don't have enough of a particular part sounds like the dog ate my home work.

i'm a big fan of apple products and i will continue to use them but the same thing happened on the 17 in pb and now this.

this is why apple will never be player in the IT market.

...the chicken asks the pig out to breakfast and the pig agrees. then the chicken says i will bring the eggs, you bring the bacon...

apple got me this time but it will be the last. i will never preorder another machine from apple again. there is absolutely no need to.

sorry for crowding this thread. it will be my last on this matter.

so i guess it will ship when it ships.

No, I have pre-ordered too early and must be punished by watching people toting them out of the Apple store en masse with one under each arm.

If I get too depressed whiling away the winter hours waiting, I can go to the local Comp-USA and fondle a 1.8Ghz and dream of a fully loaded dual.
it was the world's fastest computer when I ordered it!
