The other day one of my Firewire ports just stopped working. I have no idea why, can I easily replace it? I removed the heat sink to get a look at where it is and it doesn't look good. I have a Dual 1GHz Mirrored drive doors. Thanks for any help
I have a G4 400mhz at work and the Firewire was dead from day one. Had to get a Firewire PCI card.
I don't know why they didn't send it back under warranty, but I think they were snowed under at work (had just been burgled and had three of their mac's nicked) and needed to use it straight away. Probably forgot about it not working after they got the FW card so didn't bother sending it in after that.
you either have to replace the mainboard or get a pci card like the previous poster. if you're under warranty, go for the mainboard from apple, but otherwise, cost issues would point you toward a pci card.
