The reason those cartoons were predictable was that they did it first, and you had probably seen them before (maybe even when VERY young). Seriously, Looney Tunes from the 40s and 50s were indeed "cutting edge" and their writers and directors were responsible for establishing all those cliches that you see in countless lesser cartoons. I have five "Golden Collection" editions of Looney Tunes (and Merry Melodies) and I don't get tired of watching them (as a group) because there are so many different ways that they could do the same gag.

I agree, and really want those "Golden Collections" too. After watching them for a long period of time I did kind of expect what might happen in each little skit, but it never got to the point where it would bother me enough to not watch them. I still to this day will sit down and watch Looney Tunes now and then.

Echoing what some others have said, the original T&J, Looney Tunes, Merry Melody's,. The Simpsons. Family Guy, Futurama. Oblongs (< the greatest twisted animated show ever, even more so then Ren and Stimpy IMHO)

Some classics I remember from my really young days are:

Teddy Ruxbin (sp?)
David the Gnome
The one with the Koalas whose name I can't remember (From Nick Jr.)
The REAL Ghostbusters
the original Teeanage Mutant Ninja Turtles (I'm kinda mad they tried to bring it back after a decade as a anime)
Tiny Toon adventures
Animaniacs

And although I never cared for them (but can never for get there theme songs), around the same time were the Disney cartoons 'ch-ch-ch-ch-chip and dales, Rescue Rangers' along with 'Duck Tales (woo hoo!)'.

Disney was really hitting those theme songs out of the park back then, weren't they: "Duck Tales," "Rescue Rangers," "Tale Spin," and "Darkwing Duck" all had great themes. BTW, Duck Tales was great! It and DD were my two favorites of those.

It has moments, besides I don't watch much TV, so I catch what ever is on when I do watch, which is usually late night on Comedy Central.

I loved that show as well too. And I hated the new anime show, and didn't really like TMNT that much either.

I'm not going to lie, the majority of cartoons on my list have not aged very well. (Tranformers, Voltron & Robotech I'm looking at you!) As much as I loved these cartoons as a kid, today I would have a hard time sitting through just one episode.

The only current cartoons I watch today is an occasional Family Guy or South Park episode. I've heard a lot of good things about Venture Bros. so I may check that out one day.

The only cartoon I've yet to see mentioned that was one of my favorites was Thundarr the Barbarian.
