McCain isn't too Web savvy so we can't count him but we if were to find out that Barack Obama was a member of MacNN.

We're not allowed to post threads on other members but he is going to be a candidate for president of the USA.

I don't think the mods would care if you talked about Barack if he was a member of MacNN. MacNN would probably go down from all of the new visitors to see if it was true.

We're checking all new registered users if their IP address traces back to Washington DC. Most of them trace back to India or China, though. We used to have a former president posting here, but apparently his personality changed a little after he was shot (would have ruined my composure, too, though).

Who? (I might be wrong, but this seems like a ruse)

I can't think of any US presidents getting shot during MacNN's existence, perhaps a different country?

From an oddly serious stance, our members are "private citizens", while a political candidate is a "public figure." It's always cool to talk about public figures (usually in the PL), whether they have a secret identity that is also a member of MacNN or not. We still frown on associating a real-world identity with an online identity; for the individual to do that is bad security of all sorts, and for someone else to do that is basically a personal attack.

It's too bad you missed the Nimoy administration. That nerve pinch thing has come in handy on so many occasions...

Remember it? Hell, I WON it! But it's sad that so few people pay attention to even recent history. If you don't learn from it, you get sucked into the rerun of it. (Misquote rephrased for more accessible terminology...)

So you're in a country with a 13% flat tax, sitting on all the petroleum/natural gas and you're still free enough to drink vodka and smoke in a government building?

Cute call there, Doof. Actually, I have a certificate (suitable for framing) that lauds my indispensable service as being instrumental in winning the Cold War and vanquishing Soviet Communism. I also remember air raid drills at school, Civil Defense shelters, and bomb shelters in back yards. Obviously I'm not in a country that's sitting on all that gas and oil, you cannot smoke in government buildings here, and while it's possible to drink vodka in those buildings, it's not advisable-people talk. On the other hand, I can say what I like about those in power and unless I make a threat against them I can do so safely... I'll stay over here, thanks.

Well, there is a country that still allows most of the 'manly good stuff' in the workplace, and they're not communists! It's a place called Japan.

Oh, nice work Glenn keeping those ruskies at bay, the ADA is stronger than I imagined.
(I have an old CD shelter in my building - up until 15 years ago there were 55 gallon drums of water and food down in the hole.)

Uh.....yeah..... About that.......

Actually I'd already been "exposed" for quite some time before it occurred to me that it was a bad idea to put out all that much personal info in such a public place. On the other hand, I regularly get calls from people looking for some other Glenn Porter here in San Antonio. I am NOT the guy that used to be in the Navy, nor am I the one that moved here from Oregon, nor the one that is in the telecom business. But there are a bunch of us in the phone book...

And you misspelled my name, Railroader. 'S OK. People do that all the time...

Two 'Ns". The coincidence of my even being a member of the Mac News Network and having two 'N's' in my name is purely that. Though my mother could actually make my single-syllable name sound like three syllables if I didn't get home quick enough at dinner...

And the 'H' does stand for something, so it gets a period.

And indeed there I have no relation to Jeebus. But thanks for thinking of it.

Wow, a thread that became about ME! I'm touched. And flattered—the other part was self-evident, wasn't it?

Interesting premise. I must say, it seems McCain's team is more web savvy than that of Obama's.

"McCain's campaign is doing everything it can to erase Obama's online advantage, this time they ambushed Obama by detecting edits to his website when he updated some of his policy positions. This isn't the first time the Republicans have shown up the Democrats with their web savvy — you may remember the previous reports about the Republican Web 2.0 Consultants and their online campaigning game."

We're not allowed to post threads on other members but he is going to be a candidate for president of the USA.
Public figures are fair game for threads and posts, although I would caution that all the other rules that make this a polite place to post remain in place.
