Oh chucky in the corner. Thats scary. Thank god he's happy since the Mac pro sits infront of him.
It's great breaking out a new Mac. It's like the new car smell except new computer smell! :o

I've daisy chained two My Book Pros (FW800) and they're working happily - have you tried that?

That was the first thing I tried - when one drive was plugged in, everything was fine. As soon as the second was plugged into the chain (or into a FW400 port) both drives disappeared from Disk Utility and refused to show up. I had to restart the G5 to reset the FW bus to get one to show up again.

Just recently bought a refurbished Mac Pro.
Came at around US$2350
Mac Pro Quad 3
4gb ram
1.5TB storage
X1900XT 512MB ATI Radeon
Airport +BT
Wireless MnKB
I think I hit the refurbished jackpot.

now that's funny.
and, uh, this guy wanted to be president? i'm pretty sure that one of the requirements is that you can get at least one thing done in a day. i'd bet there is a budget proposal for 1963 somewhere on that desktop...
hahahahahaha.

A few things have changed since I posted waaay back on page 1 --
got rid of the CRT & 15" Studio Display and replaced them both with a 20" Dell 2007WFP. Also ditched the M-Audio Delta 44 and replaced it with a MOTU traveller, and generally cleaned up a bit:

Update on my computer setup. The setup below no longer exists in this form. The structure holding all of these monitors is in the trash. I am in the process of replacing it with a new setup. Hold on to your britches, because it is going to be awesome when it is finished.
The LCD's and all other electronic equipment has been salvaged. Just the structure has been trashed.

I completely updated and changed my setup.
See:
New Studio
I moved everything from an armoire style desk to a more suitable studio style desk with
space for my studio monitors, midi keyboard, drum sequencer, audio mixer as well as
my G5 tower, guitar rack and other stuff.
There's still more to come with it but that little mini site will show you what I've done thus far.
If you don't want to click the link, it used to look like:
It now looks like:
Master keyboard, monitors, hard drive array and one audio interface:
Another view of the drive array and monitors:
Mood lighting:
By the light of day and blue leds:
The guitar/effects rack:
More to come...

While I'm still lurking in the pre-Intel world, saving for a Mac Pro... Maybe my PowerMac Armada should raid an Apple Store
right to left:
1992 Macintosh Quadra 950: 68040, 33Mhz, 128MB RAM, 400MB HD, CD-ROM, A/UX 3.1
1999 PowerMac G3 "Blue & White": 450MHz, 512MB RAM, 120GB HD, DVD-ROM, Mac OS X 10.4.10
1999 PowerMac G4 "PCI Graphics": 400MHz, 1GB RAM, 160GB HD, SuperDrive, Mac OS X 10.4.10
2005 PowerMac G5: Dual 2GHz, 2GB RAM, 500GB HD, SuperDrive, Mac OS X 10.4.10

wow. i gotta ask - what do you *do* with that setup? serious question. i'm not at all saying you got too much stuff - i'm the king of having too much stuff. but i can't fathom what you do with everything. way cool if the answer is 'just because' - but i figure everything on top is video related and the stuff on the bottom of computer related. inquiring minds want to know...

Yes. Everything on top is video related. The center LCD TV is for watching. The other LCD's on either side are hooked up to Quad Video Processors. Four TV tuners are hooked up to each Video Processor. I can have up to 13 channels showing at all times (without sound of course). I never have to surf my favorite channels. Just glance up and see what's on. It's especially handy when a car chase comes on one of the local channels.
Last night I received 4 more TV tuners to fill in the 4 blue screens, so now I'm up to 13 surf channels.
I am thinking of replacing the 4 NEC monitors along the bottom with 2 Dell 24" displays. I don't need 5 displays, three is enough.
I still have a lot of trim and finish work to do. I need to cover all the background woodwork. I have not decided yet on what I want it to look like, but it will be awesome with some blinky lights and extra switches and buttons for decorations.

I gotta get a new keyboard, mouse, and monitor. I want to get one of the 17" CRT Studio Displays, a Pro keyboard, and a Logitech Marble Mouse USB for it, like you can see hooked up to the Acer (It won't see as much use once I get Tiger on the G4 instead of OS9) laptop.

That setup is... beautiful. I'd actually rather have your environment than some of the larger, ultra-modern house setups in the thread. I love the organic feel of the old wood floor and that gorgeous view from the window.
I'd ask if you need a roommate, but (aside from the two visible Coronas on the table) it's a London flat and I'll bet there's not much room.

Commodus: It's a one bed flat; I just like to drink in stereo I agree with you about ultramodern stuff, too - it's always felt more homely to me having a bit of junk and a few imperfections around.

Glenn: Nice keyboard - looks lovely and flat. Does it type nicely? I always loved my Al PB's k/b and would be chuffed if I could find something similar for my desktop.
