As you can tell, I'm considering it :-)
As I recall the fella who posted that picture (whom I *don't* recall) said this was actually a counter top he purchased and mounted to the wall. I believe that IKEA does sell these or some like it. However I'm unable to confirm that because IKEA in all their wisdom doesn't think anyone in the middle portion of the U.S is interested in affordable design. (I'm in Colorado, and while I don't think I'd kill to have an IKEA in driving distance, I'd have to think about it for minute)

I like the wire loom I see on the floor. Nice attention to detail, more people need to clean up their wires. I use raceway on the back of my desk to route cables and keep them off the floor. Good job, BZ, awesome setup.

I am big about wires. First of all, my feet go down there, so I don't want them sitting in a bunch of wires. Secondly it catches all sorts of dust, etc.
You can't see it, but am using Cable Safe Cable Manager behind the G5 and thinking about putting another on the other side. It takes an extra hour or so to set up your computer, but it is worth it in the end.

Hey UnixMac, how loud is that Raptor you're running in your G5? I'm interested in getting one, but I'm worried it will be too loud. Is it worth the premium also? Is it noticeably quicker?
Thanks

What happened to your mac mini and PB, and where and what kind of desk is that, it's so nice especially your setup with it.

I sold the mini last week. I still have the PowerBook, just forgot to put it on the desk for the photo ;-).
The desk and the black thingy on it are from IKEA, nothing fancy, indeed very low-cost.

BZ- how do you like the Altec speakers? Are they better than the 'Sticks w/sub that I currently own? You gotta love the way look with the Cinema displays... now if only Apple would come out with an aluminum finish keyboard!

I love the speakers. Between them and the remote, they look like they came with the computer.
It really is sad how the keyboard looks so out of place compared to everything else.

IMHO your mouse fits the setup a whole lot worse than Apple's keyboard.
The Apple keyboard, mouse etc. all match the Al hardware pretty well, especially since most of us have an iPod and a shuffle right next to it anyway. The real issue is that Apple can't give their mouse a wheel and a second button, but that has been discussed enough elsewhere.

Yeah, I had always thought of the 9600 and 9500 as being large machines. But the G5 dwarfs even them when side by side. Though I'm sure it is partly because of the handles and legs.

I finally got a G5! I've been wanting one for about a year and a half... saved up my pennies and pulled the trigger 3 weeks ago. Unfortunately, the office looked like the aftermath of a bombing, so I had to wait a few weeks to do a big clean-up (thanks to the wifes pushing and prodding!) so now I can take pics to show the rig and not be embarrassed!

Yeah, it's 3 old desks crammed in together (with about 2" or so to spare on either side!). I just measured it- 10.3" linear feet of desk space!!
And the funniest part is my wife was actually commenting just yest, "You really need another desk with a clean area for workspace and to lay things out and work with your hands don't you?"
I have no clue where another desk would go though!
Thanks though!

voo, are those the Logitech z5500s with optical in? If so, how do they sound when hooked up to your PM's optical out? I thought about getting those for my PM, but I already have a set of decent 5.1 speakers, so I just a Dolby Digital surround decoder for them. I'm thinking about the Klipsch Promedia 5.1 ultras now...

Yep, its hooked up via optical. To be honest I think the quality is superb though I need to get speaker stands to space them out a bit, I have to turn the sub down pretty low as its like thunder but the quality is fantastic. It even beats the PC for sound since its running a Audigy 2 ZS with digital din on Creative Inspire 5.1 Digital 5700 as it really can't compare to these z5500.
I'll still have to test the z5500 with a DVD to see what its like but for music its excellent.
