Something seems to be wrong with my 17" MBPs (2.33/late 2006) Battery.
When I first noticed that the notebook completely shut down before the battery-indicator sent a warning message, I figured it's time to recalibrate. No luck.
So I just ignored the odd behavior until today:

The indicator is permanently stuck on 100% and shows 10:00 left. I've tried to recalibrate again and also reset the PMU/SMC, it didn't help. Is there anything else I try before taking it to the local apple store?

That happens when the battery ages. It sounds to me, you might need a new battery. The battery is not `broken', it's quite likely that is has simple gone through sufficiently many charge cycles.

LiIon batteries usually last 500-1000 cycles, so your battery giving out after about 750 charge cycles sounds normal. The capacity lost doesn't just depend on number of charge cycles, but also the ambient temperature: if you live further south, your battery will lose capacity faster.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

I wasn't aware that these batteries are "only" good for 500-1000 charges.
The problems just get worse and worse so I've already ordered a replacement.

One thing I noticed though, the aluminum cover is already showing a slight bulge on both sides of the pack so I'll take it to the apple store... eventually I'm still eligible for a replacement thanks to Applecare but I'm not getting my hopes up.
